I can't understand why Nintendo would ever want to go 3rd party, less control, potential making less money due to no hardware sales, games have more competition on the consoles and loads of other problems just look at Sega they are shell of their former self I don't want Nintendo to turning into that.
Or Atari, who pretty much ceased to exist.
Also Panasonic, NEC and SNK.
Although to be fair Nintendo has some pretty impressive IP. A lot of fairly large companies could exist purely on the sort of revenue Nintendo could make selling plushies. That combined with the talent they have I don't think Nintendo has much of a chance of fading into near-insignificance in gaming. It just doesn't make sense to drop out of the console game given how much that can pay off when they get it right.

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"
One scenario if Nintendo goes third party is that they'll be like Sega. Far smaller market cap. Far less presence. Far less revenues.
But the other scenario is that a game like Mario Kart will sells 10's of millions on the other consoles, making it bigger than Call of Duty and GTA by a long margin.
So the reasoning is that with powerful enough franchises, it can reach far greater audiences by going third party.
Nintendo's main reasoning against that idea is that Mario Kart or any other game is great only because they can design it around their hardware's strengths.
Until you can convince Nintendo that they can make a lot of money in maintaining their current revenue at several billion software only and that making money off hardware is useless you aren't seeing them going third party.
it can reach far greater audiences by going third party..
And only this, because it wouldn't make as much money for them.
By going 3rd party they would have to sell 4 times more games to just make it even. With 4 mln copies of NSMBU sold, it is equal to selling 16 mln on other platforms if they would go third party.
And good luck with that, when 5 mln copies is "unreasonable" by "gamers" and for publishers it's not enough or flat out fail. It will get worse with time.
I hope they will never go third party, because then the world would lose GAMES and gaming would be only about dying, walking through doors or QTE only
Never going to happen. Unless cloud gaming becomes a thing.
Oh I hope not. I am ok with Downloading games but Cloud gaming sounds terrible idea (except maybe MMOs)
Wouldn't it be the opposite since MMO's would have to render through the cloud the same game for mutiple people and that would use a ton of bandwith. I'm assuming that PS Now will only be used for single player games.

MMOs could benefit from Cloud gaming by giving developers the most control over their worlds and evolving everything. Other multiplayer games might get the same benefit. I don't really like the idea of not being able to play certain games because of server maintenance or internet issues. Basically wouldn't be able to play anything during peak hours.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
