Topic: Why should Nintendo go third party?

Could someone tell me why people want them to go software only? And could someone actually make a case, from a business perspective, why it would be better for them? No "Their games would be better on other hardware" or "I want to play their games, but not enough to buy their consoles". From an objective business standpoint, how would it be a good idea?

How can I explain this....The only people who want Nintendo to go thrid party are the people who stubbornly refuse to buy a Nintendo console to play Nintendo games. They secretly miss Nintendo games because they know they are usually in high quality. That longing for a Nintendo game for their console actually leads to hatred and jealousy!

Or they're someone who doesn't have the money to buy multiple consoles and was hopping they could get the best bang for their buck.

The logic behind this is that Nintendo wasted their lightning in a bottle success with Wii and thus could be heading towards worse than GCN sales because of the decline in popularity of Nintendo consoles (spoilers, this isn't happening). Now while most people are sane enough to know going away from their own handheld systems would be a bad idea, the general opinion is because of their current issues with Wii U that they should just release their big console games elsewhere instead of focusing on it. Of course, people are morons who completely misunderstand why Wii U has struggled, so that alone invalidates their arguments for me. But anyone who actually wants the only interesting home console that is trying to be a video game console instead of a PC-lite wants console gaming to be boring and predictable and thus they should be ignored.

I understand why people say this, but they still own the best software (excluding some recent wii u titles) in the game business. They will continue to survive, albeit not thrive for generations to come. However, they may drop down to just a handheld or just a home console in the future or at least a unified system.

Yep I can understand a person who'd buy two systems a generation but rather buy one. To a large extent if the Wii U had third partybganes it wouldn't be as much of a problem these days.

I already know dudes not sweating Shovel Knight since they think its going to come to PS4/Vita within the year.

.... I dunno what to say to you... I hope YOU aren't the insanely foolish people who want Nintendo to go third party cuz they are too stubborn to save up for a Wii U.
I bet if I made a "Sony should go third party thread" that I would get slammed and called a Nintendo fanboy.

I own a Wii U and honesty it wouldn't hurt my feelings if Nintendo went third party. The only reason I bought a Wii U was so I can play first party Nintendo games, if they were offered on the PS4 then I wouldn't need the Wii U.

Because everyone on the Internet becomes a 'couch video game analyst expert'. They could do it and be very successful or they could do it and fail miserably. None of us know.

Somehow I feel an argument of someone vs Scar is coming in this thread though.

At the same time, you apparently can't accept that other people have opinions that differ from yours. They aren't "foolish" as you describe them.

I think Nintendo should discontinue the Wii U and work on their next console.

Also that when the various ejecta hits the turbines people always turn to the quick solution. There's a problem, they want it solved yesterday. If you have even a passing interest in any sort of long term, publicly discussed thing then you would have seen this already.

For example, a new government comes in and say they want to build a tunnel or something. Most people get hyped, their opponents immediately rant about how horrible it is. Day 1 into the project they do their photo op with the shovel and such, people are happy. A few months in work starts, some things go wrong as they always do and unexpected stuffs happens. People start ranting as if somehow they know better than the people who are actually knee deep in it. Calls for it to be stopped or drastically altered mid-project, whine fills the letters to the editor of local papers. Years later, project is finished.... everyone talks about how they knew it would work out in the end....

That's even worse. Who's gonna spend even more money on a whole new Nintendo console when 1 just came out? It's smarter to continue supporting the Wii U and make it stronger with a larger library of must-have games. As it's slowly doing right now.

Ditching hardware so fast and moving to next thing is a bad idea I believe I.e. Sega

I think it's a sad future we live in where Nintendo is more desirable on mobile phones and on other companies hardware to the gamers that aren't devoted Nintendo fans. I wish I could go back in time and tell Nintendo not to screw over Sony and to not make the Wii and become casual fodder for a whole generation, Sega not to make the 32-X, the Sega CD and not quit supporting the Saturn, then we may live in the time where those two still competed and were the cornerstone of gaming. From a retro gaming viewpoint I think the more gaming consoles the better when you begin to collect for it, but it is a little expensive to pay for all the consoles right now and I wish I could have the one ultimate gaming console.

By 3rd-party, we're talking console games, right? Because if we're talking handhelds, that's a really bad idea. It may be a smaller market than it used to be, but it's a market that Nintendo completely dominates. To abandon it would be foolish.

Frankly, instead of going 3rd party, focusing just on their handhelds may be for the best. I get that something would be missing without having the couch gaming staples Nintendo offers, but frankly, it would allow for them to always have a steady stream of top-notch games for their system. That, combined with how portable games never really need as big of budgets as console games, would be a winning strategy. Plus, with their amount of studios, they may be even more willing to put out more experimental games since they wouldn't have to worry about appealing to people as much (they'd have the Mario Karts, Mario Bros, Smash Bros, Pokémon, Zelda, etc. out really quickly).

Of course, there are advantages to going 3rd party. They wouldn't have to worry about any of the infrastructure stuff regarding online. They wouldn't have to worry about building those systems, or shipping them out, etc., which would make their business model more compact in scope. However, they also wouldn't get those fees from every 3rd party that publishes on their platform that make up the bulk of their profits, meaning they would have to change their business model as well. Granted, I don't know if they'd be giving up much right now, considering that 3rd party games are selling at incredibly low numbers on Wii U and that there aren't many 3rd party games coming out in general either. The whole "we're building games around our unique ideas" shtick isn't really doing it for me anymore either, since Nintendo has yet to really utilize the unique controller they have in a way that would make their ideas not work on other systems (barring minigame collections). If they're just going to put out traditional games, why not put them out on other systems? What would we, as players, miss? A logo on the system?

Shovel Knight's a pretty average example given that it's going to launch on 3DS, Wii U AND Steam. Plus this thread is about first/second party Nintendo games going multiplatform. This thread isn't about asking for more third party games to be Nintendo exclusive.

As for your comment why not ask the same of the other guys? If I only want to buy one console why do I have to buy a PS3, 360, XBOne, PS4, Wii U, PC, 3DS AND Vita if I want to play all of the best games from the last year? Why not level this criticism at some of the other guys? Any reason other than the fact that having a go at Nintendo is the flavour of the month ATM?
