Topic: We need a 3D Donkey Kong game

Ever since Donkey Kong 64, which was an amazing game, I've been longing for another reunion of the ape gang. DK64 was epic with amazing worlds and the veteran thug King K.Rool (where did he go anyway, did Donkey really take him out?). The Wii U would be the perfect platform for a new 3D HD Donkey Kong game. Just imagine how detailed the worlds would be, we'd finally see what a Kremlin looks like in HD and They could bring back more old school animals. I for one would definitely buy a new 3D DK, how about you guys? What would you like to see in a new DK game?

I would welcome a new 3D Donkey Kong in like 2 years. I still got to play Tropical Freeze. So many other Nintendo character's need to make an appearance on the Wii U first.

Agreed. I don't know why the hell Nintendo's gotten into such a 2D platformer fetish as of late. They should just keep those as small scale downloadable titles, and put their money into quality 3D platformers.

Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

Well, you have to admit that DKCR and DK:TF are amazing 2D platformers. They didn't screw it up. But I would love for them to step up and let the bravehearted ape move in an extra dimension. We know he can take it and we know it's a lot of fun.

Donkey Kong 64 wasn't an amazing game. Unless boring, 4 extra times going through a lesser Banjo Kazooie level is your idea of great gaming.

Wow seriously? Well, to each his own, I certainly loved it.

Even if you don't like it it doesn't mean the series shouldn't have 3D entries. People make this mistake all the time. When a franchise fails to make a strong transition to 3D, they assume it's because the franchise doesn't translate well to 3D, rather than assuming the designers just didn't know how to translate it to 3D.

I would be open to this, but not right now. I wasn't crazy about DK64, so i can't say I'm totally sold on the idea. I would be open to it with time though, since we just had DKCTF.
I'd rather see Nintendo put their money into Metroid, Star Fox, F-Zero (after playing MK8 and almost having my eyes pop out of my head, the idea of F-Zero's flashy, futuristic, high speed racing in HD with similar attention to detail gives me goosebumps) and whatever other franchises have been waiting in the wings, as well as new and interesting projects.

O most definitely. Star Fox 64 (Lylatwars in Europe) is one of my favourite games ever. Great voice-overs and Andross is a true villain. I still play it occasionally

I'll admit they were good, but for a genre that has as small a scope as 2D platforming and that takes such little advantage of new hardware, I can't really justify paying more than 20 dollars for one in this day and age.

Star Fox is dead to me unless they can better Rogue Leader. (I liked the idea of Star Fox Assault but didn't end up liking it).

Not bothered at all about Metroid unless it is one like Fusion or Super Metroid.

Fzero only if Sega does it.

I disliked Donkey Kong 64 in all ways (Other than the Arcade Donkey Kong being included).

A 3D version in the vein of Donkey Kong / Donkey Kong Jr I might go for with as many levels as say Mario vs Donkey Kong or Donkey Kong '94

DKCR, maybe, but DK:TF was more of a 2.5D game. You're moving between foreground and background, you get a tilted view with more movement options in some minekart levels and the barrels shoot you around objects.

I get your point though, it's not a real 3D world, while the Wii U could easily handle something like that.

Is it really required for a character to be in 3D as well. Seriously why is it that people have the perspective that any famous character that's in 2D should now be in 3D? Look at Kirby. I don't recall any time that we could play a 3D Kirby game (not counting Air Ride since that's more of a spin-off). If they can't figure out how to put the character in 3D, don't make them do it. Its not the end of the character if at all he does end up being only 2D or 3D.

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why

Donkey has already appeared in a 3D game on the N64 and it was, in my opinion, a great game, which is why I would like for the Big N to make another one.

Look at the Wii numbers and you will see why. 3D Platformers don't sell as well (Regardless of quality) cost more to make and cannot be made reasonably hard without requiring a reasonable amount of time to get to grips with it. (Which kills the metacritic score).

I've seen the numbers and it's incredibly depressing.

Yes it is. It is absolutely required for a series to advance with technology, and we have gotten to the point where games in 2D has almost completely plateaued. Crystal Shards was a pseudo-3D game with its isometric point of view, and the devs of Kirby have said they would like to put him in 3D. I mean, do you really think Final Fantasy and Zelda should get 2D incarnations on home consoles as AAA games? That's just wasting new expensive hardware.

If they can't figure out how to put a character in 3D, they should get someone else to do it. Just because one team doesn't know how doesn't mean no one does.

I agree that 3D is the next step for 2D games. The only reason we love 3D Mario games is because Nintendo experimented with it on the N64 after years of 2D Mario games. The same step could produce great games as well for other franchises. On the other hand, 2D games as they are right now shouldn't disappear, they're fun to play. 2D and 3D should just co-exist.
