There's an official site for these games that clearly states release date for both versions right on the front page. Whereas the WiiU game is set for "Holiday 2014", which means it does not have a release date as of yet.

November 21st if Nintendo is smart. Right before black Friday just like last year when they released 3D world and a link between world's on that same day.
That's what we call a placeholder date. When stores are given a broad release time like holiday 2014,they list at as the last possible day until the developer gives them a solid date.

Yes, it's a placeholder date. Gamestop lists it as December 31st too. Doesn't make it true. No major game has ever released on that day, yet countless have been listed as releasing on that day before they were given official dates. Skyward sword did the same

On which website? The Smash Bros one has always said Holiday 2014. You may be thinking of a retailer's website, which is just a placeholder and not a confirmed date.
