So now that we know so much more about this game, I decided to go back and read Nintendolife's first impressions of this game. It was almost painful.

  • "Super Mario 3D World isn’t really that strange."
  • "In fact, it just looks and feels like every other Mario game released in the wake of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, a recycled amalgam of art and scenes."
  • "Playing through the very first Super Mario 3D World level on display at E3 feels like watching a rerun. "
  • (On Cat Mario and company) "They scamper on all fours and scratch at goombas, but it’s still too familiar"

To be fair, the author still left some hope that the game could be weirder later on, and I commented that you should never underestimate the weirdness of a Mario game. Now we should have all learned that.

  • Sharks with heads shaped like spiky rollers; appear to be parodies of hammerhead sharks
  • Bowser rides a big, purple car with angry orange eyes
  • Collecting the Double Cherry produces clones of your character
  • You fight a giant, metal clown boss
  • You wear the head of a killed Goomba as a disguise to sneak through other Goombas undetected

Need I go on? I admit that Nintendo played it too safe with this game back at E3, but it's pretty appalling, and humorous, to see how badly people criticized this game.

Don't worry, I won't be posting anything really spoiling like boss battles, mainly new bosses. I like watching these little gameplay videos because they increase my hype even more, but the same gameplay will surprise me again when I play it in person. Just watching a video of it online doesn't do it justice.

This next gen game looks amazing

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

i wish i could stop watching but Dmans right cant really spoil a mario game by seeing the first few worlds. i was watching some of the first few levels on my wii u last night while holding the gamepad pretending to play haha, even that was fun. really cant wait for this ive got a feeling it might be my favorite mario yet.

put it on.

I don't see what the big deal is given it's a Mario platformer.

That reminds me of the time my friend got mad at me for "spoiling" Dark Moon for him. I told him King Boo was the final boss.

Oh, great. Now you've spoiled it for me. I actually haven't beaten it yet.
I don't think it's as obvious that King Boo is the boss in Luigi's Mansion as it is obvious that Bowser is the final boss in a Super Mario game. There have only been two Luigi's Mansion games so there is no set standard. Bowser wasn't the final boss in Super Mario Bros. 2 and Ganon wasn't the final boss in The Legend of Zelda 2.

It's pretty dang obvious King Boo is the main villain. I mean, he's in the opening cutscene for crying out loud.

Avian fact of the week: The Moa, an extinct relative of ostrichs and emus that inhabited New Zealand, was the tallest bird that ever lived at 12 ft tall (3.6 m). It was also the only known bird to have no wing structure.
