Eh, I wouldn't care unless there was some reward to them. If there just there to show off, then no. >_>
Your reward is that you have more incentive to 100% complete a game, and it has accomplishments that tie all your games together instead of just being something separate in each game (or... whatever I"m trying to say. /me is not good at explaining stuff u_u). There's no downside to it, you can always turn notifications off (as I said earlier) and pretend they don't exist if you're against them.
Eh, still...wish there was more to it...like getting this trophy or whatever would unlock a weapon or a path to some epic optional boss or something. xD

That would kinda suck, actually. Some achievements are really hard and annoying. I'd rather have no incentive rather than have to put up with immense frustration just to get something that makes the game easier (cool weapon) or more frustration (powerful boss fight). Of course, that's probably just me. I'd prefer it if they unlocked cool cheats like in Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted. They offer incentive while still remaining optional.

If you think about it...a lot of games kinda do this already even if they don't have trophies/achievements. Perfect example being Paper Mario 2, a good challenge of making through 100 floors of enemies (well...90 I guess since it has a "checkpoint every 10 floors, lol). Getting through it all is quite hard, and at the end of it all you end up fighting a powerful optional boss. Chrono Trigger also has plenty of sidequests and optionals that lead to "best" weapons and hard bosses.
Just because some games do achievements wrong, doesn't mean they're all bad. Just because some people obsess over them, doesn't mean that they shouldn't be there. So long as Nintendo can do them right, I see no problem with them implimenting such a system.
Might as well just cause they have them it doesnt mean I have to do them. Personally I am not big on achievements but I know others are. It doesn't change the game one way or another.

to the obnoxious one below me. That is my short answer. I don't like trophies, well to an extent they are o.k.. But when you have trophies that demand the most stupid or impossible to do without looking it up online (I'm looking at you Hidden PlayStation trophies >.>) That's when they just become annoying. It's like the hidden trophies are begging you to cheat when you should not have to in the first place. And also I see it as a lazy way for game company's to add replay value. "Yeah beat the game and get this one item that you can't go back and get after a certain point, It's cool just start that 60 hour game over it's fun." No it's not, If I want to replay a game it should be because I had a blast while playing it.
I know they are optional but what would achievements add to the gaming experience if its only for showing off to other people. I do agree with GundamMac. As long as Nintendo can make them worthwhile then I am all for it. If its just for an artificial score then why put it in at all.
Accomplishment ...and I agree with others here, they should be optional and non-intrusive to both yourself and others...make them a per game basis, but allow viewing progress on your local system when you decide to look at it...and no secret achievements, those suck.
What is the meaning of life? That's so easy, the answer is TETRIS.
