Just because some games do achievements wrong, doesn't mean they're all bad. Just because some people obsess over them, doesn't mean that they shouldn't be there. So long as Nintendo can do them right, I see no problem with them implimenting such a system.

Might as well just cause they have them it doesnt mean I have to do them. Personally I am not big on achievements but I know others are. It doesn't change the game one way or another.

That is my short answer.
I don't like trophies, well to an extent they are o.k.. But when you have trophies that demand the most stupid or impossible to do without looking it up online (I'm looking at you Hidden PlayStation trophies >.>) That's when they just become annoying. It's like the hidden trophies are begging you to cheat when you should not have to in the first place. And also I see it as a lazy way for game company's to add replay value. "Yeah beat the game and get this one item that you can't go back and get after a certain point, It's cool just start that 60 hour game over it's fun." No it's not, If I want to replay a game it should be because I had a blast while playing it.

So in short

I know they are optional but what would achievements add to the gaming experience if its only for showing off to other people. I do agree with GundamMac. As long as Nintendo can make them worthwhile then I am all for it. If its just for an artificial score then why put it in at all.

Accomplishment ...and I agree with others here, they should be optional and non-intrusive to both yourself and others...make them a per game basis, but allow viewing progress on your local system when you decide to look at it...and no secret achievements, those suck.

Also Choco, you know, you can turn off notifications or sounds for achievements. I own a 360 and a PS3, I know this pretty well.

To be honest I could see Nintendo doing something with them right.

Might as well include them as that's what some gamers have come to expect and would be sure to complain about it if they weren't there.
And for people that don't care about them, you can just ignore them (as long as they're not too intrusive).
The best thing Nintendo can do is try their best to make as many people as possible happy and I think that that'd be the best way to do it.

They should use a system similar to the Nook Point System in Animal Crossing and Club Nintendo.

The 360 already does something similar to that with the rewards but I'd like to see it carried over to other systems as well.

I don't care either way, as long as I can play the game I'm ok.

I was looking around and cannot find it. You can actually use the points you earned from Achievements?

If that's happening, then I hope it's implemented in WiiU if they even bring a system like that to the console.

Nintendo does have achievements.

You get a gold trophy for coming first in a cup during Mario Kart.

Thats an achievement.

Achievements make me play the game longer. I played Mario Kart 7 to get more coins to unlock new kart pieces. If those kart pieces didn't exist, I wouldn't have played it as much as I did.

If there was an achievement to win using every kart piece at least once then I'd try to achieve it. Since there's no incentive to use other kart pieces than the set-up I like then I won't.

Nintendo has achievements in quite a few games - from Mii Plaza on the 3DS to Xenoblade.

Nintendo is clearly interested in allowing achievements, I personally think they're just looking for what they consider to be the right way to do it.

Not exactly, but some games do offer avatar rewards such as new clothes for getting certain achievements. That's the type of thing I'd like to see expanded upon.
