So I'm buying a "WII U" and I was thinking of buying a basic one used. Is it OK to buy a "WII U" used? I know the basic set has low memory, but I don't care. I'll be buying retail unless I have to. I found one for $194.00.
Personally, I never buy used hardware unless I have to. I bought my Gamecube used for about $30 back in 2011 because I gave my sister my original Wii, and bought a new Wii that wasn't backward compatible. That's the only time I've bought used hardware. I tend to not trust used hardware. I want to have the absolute best chance of it not being bricked or messed up in any way and I want all the perks of buying new and to get the best return policy/warranty. I also like making sure (especially in the case of Nintendo hardware) that I'm giving my money to Nintendo and throwing my support behind them using my wallet. I do the same thing with software unless it's really old.
Nintendo Network ID: RedSteel92
Now playing: Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, New Super Mario Bros., Bastion
I really think that in the long run, getting a Deluxe set is the way to go. You get a free game (or two if you get the Mario bundle) and you get 3 times the memory and you get enrolled into a rewards program for your eShop purchases. I think it's certainly worth the extra money. Just my opinion.

Definitely go new. You want that warranty, just in case. And who knows what abuse a used GamePad has been subjected to. You also want the ability to link to A Club Nintendo account (not sure of the ability to do this on a used Wii U).
I only buy used cartridges, except in rare circumstances. Discs will be put under the microscopes and I just don't do used hardware. It's just not worth the savings, as a rule, especially considering the kind of deals you can find if you are diligent and patient.
As for the Swap Force bundle, I was a skeptic myself, but Swap Force is a seriously fun co-op timewaster. A big improvement on the two previous releases. It's just a cool blend of platforming and hacking/slashing with some really awesome abilities and nice character progression. You don't need any more than what it comes with for a good (hard, since the figures are your "lives") time. Either way, you should be able the sell the game + figures to offset most of the difference, if nothing else. No reason to dismiss this bundle at the right price.
no, nintendo needs the support for WiiU right now. they need the money, and if you want games to play on it, then buy it new. i recommend the deluxe edition, which comes with a free game and several accessories. one bundle has WWHD, another has Nintendoland, another has ZombiU, there's a good variety of bundles

Blue blue.
Totally forgot about those bundles. Unfortunate. Make sure any Wii you buy has a verticle logo on the front. NOT horizontal.
Oh, I knew the Wii I was going to buy wasn't backwards compatible. I wish that it was so I could've had one less console in my apartment, but it's not a big deal. I got New Super Mario Bros. Wii with it, so I was pretty happy.
EDIT: @ HappyHappyist The ZombiU bundle is not in the US.
From the "Wii U" I'm getting a "Gamecube" vibe. I Never owned one, but I've seen it in stores. Almost bought one too for $100 in Florida at Target. Man I missed home schooling. If the "Wii U" does pull a "Gamecube" I'll be fine with that.
