So I've had 1 lock up over the past couple of days, happened when I was using the youtube app. Locked while starting streaming the video, screen froze and the console became unresponsive. No buttons worked including the reset/power button on the front, in the end had to pull out the power adaptor and plug it back in to get the system back to life. I saw some other posts about locking up, anyone else know the details about frequency, causes and if Nintendo is planning a fix soon?

This happened to me once after I beat Chapter 16 of Giants. I'm sure future updates are going to improve stability as I've seen a few reports of this and I don't think Nintendo would ignore that(remember black screen on 3DS?). Let's hope. In the meantime I shall report in again if I get this.

i don't have a Wii U (yet) so i don't really know, but it is NOT good to unplug your system with the power on. don't ever do it, just hold the power button and eventually it will force shut down, all systems, tablets, etc. have this feature. Never unplug a device if the power is on.

Did try that at the time, unfortunately didn't seem to work (held for over 5 mins). The lock left me with no other option than to kill the power.

Same here, regrettably. I always follow proper instructions with consoles as much as possible right down to taking discs out when the system is off(well, when I found out about it a few days ago), but nothing else would fix it. I do hope Ninty fix this as it does seem widespread, let's hope this is not an issue with launch-era consoles as I really don't want to have this and then find out newer releases of it have this resolved exclusively.

Played the console for about 6 or 7 hours now and I have not had any of the problems this console is supposed to have no crashes no freezes no lockups the gamepad works fine so happy days

One lockup here. This is internet related apparently and there will be a patch soon . No biggie. Disconnect if it happens repeatedly , until nintendo release the update.

Ditto. Seems to mainly freeze up switching from Wii mode back to Wii U menu and there's no option but pulling the plug. So I guess not "all" devices have this feature contrary to mr blakerton's assertion.

Mine froze while I was connected to Assassin's Creed III online, went to my home menu and then back into the game.
I'll give that one the benefit of the doubt, so fingers crossed I don't have any other random freezes too often.
Hopefully they can get on top of the issue soon, because having to unplug my system is a little scary.
