I got an answer from shin'en, well they said its an good idea but its not their genre.
To say i didnt expect much, at least they answered friendly and showed some interest in the email.
Also im surprised they answered so fast.
Of course there is no saying how serious they take such emails.

I like the old RTS games like Dune 2, Warcraft and C&C, Red Alert, etc, and I think they will work just fine on the Wii U. They would also work with just the Wii Remote like Pikmin... I have Dawn of Discovery on the Wii.

Lol you know whats really funny about this statement? People were saying the exact same thing about shooters when Halo came out - just look where we are today.

As for the touchscreen being slow or imprecise, thats an assumption if I have ever saw one. Pikmin and W101 dont use gesture commands, the touch screen is used in a fashion that requires accuracy and in the case of W101 speed. Seriously guys the touch screen on the Gamepad is as sensitive as a touchpad on your laptop maybe even more so. Valid arguments only and no assumptions please if you feel the need to launch a rebuttal.

Now admittedly there would need to be some changes to how the game would control but I dont see that being to difficult overcome. Controlling units could be as simple as drawing a circle around a bunch of things to select, scrolling up to your destination with the RS and left clicking (RT) on the location or target while the cursor is hovering over it. Its kinda like how the game is played on PC now.

What I see might be challenging would be to balance units that have multiple special options without overloading the touch screen with virtual buttons - thats a design issue though. The kid icarus approach could work pretty easily, the gamepad isnt heavy and if your sitting on your couch you would be able rest it on your lap. Unlike KI where you have to use the RS to move and the stylus to shoot., I'd imagine that the RS would only really be used to pan and scroll the screen. One thing that wouldnt surprise me at all is if someone came up with a lap stand to play RTS' ala all those flight sticks and zapper knockoffs that you see for the Wii .

At the end of the day I think we are agreed that a straight port wouldnt work - the game would need to be built from the ground up to take advantage of the Gamepad. If that is something you'd like to see then sign my petition, it costs you nothing and may possibly open up a whole new genre on the Wii U. If developers see there is money to be made then they will try to take advantage of it so c'mon theres nothing to lose and everything to gain.

RTS games I personally disagree with. Won't bother delving into reasons that have already been explained.

Grand Strategies however...the touch-screen is perfect for games like Civilization V or Europa Universalis IV...but the installed userbase for Grand Strategies is on PC, the audience for the game would be weak.

Yes, we're worse off. Movement is slower, enemies are slower and usually fewer, limitations in amounts of weapons held at a time, auto-aiming, waist-high walls, etc...

Aren't most of those more about trying to make Shooters more realistic?

They're based around the limitations of a controller as compared to KB/M. You can't use the analog stick as quickly or as accurately as a mouse, thus the slowdown in movement (yours and theirs) and auto-aiming. Controlling a full arsenal with a controller is awkward, you're either toggling through them one at a time or you could do something like map them to the 8 directions on a d-pad, neither of which is great. Halo said 'well let's just have two of them, and you toggle between the two.'

Waist high walls ... not sure why they became so prevalent. Surfaces for cover shooting, maybe?

Unfortunately aside from a few franchises RTS is pretty much a dead genre having devolved into mobas for the most part. I'm hoping the buzz around Planetary Annihilation will inject some more confidence into developers to try to revive the genre.

FYI RTS has had some console succes, C&C for example has always had nice control schemes though of course not as responsive as keyboard & mouse. Since there is no cross platform play i don't see this as much of a problem.

I think we are going to disagree on these things. I don't feel limited using a controller when I play games (and i play both PC and Console) and i also think most of those changes were just for more realism.

Halo Wars also very successfully did a complete RTS experience on Console.

You say they are worse off and yet there are no PC only FPS games out there other then those like counterstrike and TF2. As others have said the slow down was for "realism" ie to make your hero less of a superman. The KBM does not have any advantage over a controller simply due to the fact that most FPS games are built around one these days.

Turning your head more slowly in a combat situation does not make a game more realistic.

Honestly I don't think either control scheme is realistic at all. The mouse and keyboard make it too accurate, and if you put in an artificial shaking to the reticule people will get annoyed. This is why motion controls need to get better, but the only decent controller I've seen that works well is the Razer Hydra...

I completely Agree. I don't want to see something like Sins of a Solar Empire on a console but something similar to Halo Wars wouldn't be bad.
