I'd say GameCube had better games within 2 years, then Wii U, then Wii.
GameCube had ton of good games. There was Smash Bros, Metroid Prime, Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Sunshine, Resident Evil, RE0, and then we had all the 3rd party games. So I don't think Wii U has beaten GCN in terms of content just yet, but it's getting there. Wii had Twilight Princess, Wii Sports, and a handful of other games, too, but I don't think it was even close to what GCN had, and this is 6 years later on top of that. I still enjoyed the Wii, but it didn't have nearly as much impact as anything I was playing on GCN. As for Wii U, I'd say it's been decent. If you actually cared about 3rd party games at launch, there was the newest CoD, Tekken, etc. I liked NSMB.U and Nintendo Land to an extent, but alot of the appeal was buying 3rd party games like Tekken and Sonic, at least from my experience.
I think threads like these just make it a lot more obvious that people aren't buying enough 3rd party or indie games to compliment their 1st party games. I'm not saying your criticism doesn't make sense or anything, but I personally find it a a lot more enjoyable to go from something like Wii Sports to something like Splintercell, Deus Ex, Monster Hunter, etc. If the complaint is that 1st party is disappointing, the decision that makes the most sense would be to buy some 3rd party games. That's why people on Xbox and PS buy more 3rd party games than first party. They just don't care about PS Battle Royal or Banjo Kazooie as much as the next CoD or AC.

I was gonna disagree about Wii being worse than Wii U in this regard but then I realized you were including 3rd party so ok. Yeah, nearly all of Wii's best 3rd party games came out at least after Brawl and MKWii. Whereas Wii U struck early and these games are on such hiatus right now that I have to believe Nintendo is doing this somewhat intentionally before another 3rd party game sells poorly on their console.

I just think talking about 1st party or 3rd party by themselves is kind of pointless, because that's not all a console has to offer. Like if I said 1st party games on 3DS were boring or something, that would be ignoring that it has Monster Hunter and other games.

I thought Billy Hatcher was a great idea with poor execution. (Which is why it's one of the few games that I think needs a sequel.) I'm glad I tried it out/bought it, and I'm glad it exists.
Yeah, I'm disappointed with the Wii U's first party lineup… but not disappointed in any way that matters. The Wii U is back at home, and if it weren't, I'd just use it to finish up Armillo and be content. There isn't really any kind of game I can think of that I want to play right now that I don't already have access to, so I can't complain that the Wii U doesn't have enough to suit my needs. Sure, the Wii U could have Super Mario 64-Sunshine-Galaxy-like or Donkey Kong 64 Sequel that Improves Vastly Over Its Predecessor instead of 3D 2D platformer and 2D platformer, but I'm fine playing Bit Boy‼︎ ARCADE for now.
I am looking forward to playing Tropical Freeze with my brother next time we're both home though! I had my sister download the game for me on my account while it was $30.
The thing about the Wii U right now is that there aren't many upcoming games for it. This changes my view from one of "Wow, I have these games and soon even more will be coming!" To one of "These games are fun, but is Captain Toad all I'll have besides Smash Bros?". I think the disappointment is not in the quality or quantity of released games, but rather the upcoming games causing the future plethora to look subpar. If there was a new Mario Galaxy, Metroid and Fire Emblem coming, I know I would be more excited about the current games, instead of wondering if this is all I'll get for a year.

I think the Wii U has a great 1st Party line-up and definitely the best 1st Party line up of this current generation.
shakes your hand in respect And that's nothing againt PS4`s exclusives and Xbox One's exclusives.
The least rotten apple could still be rotten.
I always hate when people defend Nintendo by saying SonySoft do it too.
What are you even talking about??? I like all the Big 3`s exclusives. I like Nintendo's the most. If you don't like the Wii U or its games then sell it and buy something that would please you! Jeez!!!
I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

It depends. People are going to make comparisons, regardless. It's kind of like how people always say Mario/Zelda/etc. is repetitive, Wii U has no games, or that Wii U is "weak". All those situations technically apply to the other consoles or 3rd parties in one way or another, as well, so it doesn't make sense to critically single out one console with that taken into consideration.
To be more on topic, I think Xbox and PS have a good batch of exclusives. The problem with all exclusives seems to be that they are all similar to something else, though, which is a problem that plagues all the consoles. 3rd parties have done a much better job at producing a variety of different games and services over the years, and that affects how people look at 1st and 3rd parties.

@iKhan - FYI, HW has motion controls, my youngest likes playing that way. I'm not sure how all the moves work exactly but he was swinging that Wiimote all over the place and the character on screen was swinging w/ him. When you start the game up you can choose DW or Zelda controls, I'm assuming Zelda means motion. I don't think motion would work using the Gamepad though
Also, you seem confused by what "1st party" means. 2 games you mentioned in your original statement, Wonderful 101 and Lego City, are NOT 1st party, they are exclusives, but not 1st party, Nintendo did not make them.
Really? That's awesome!
Wonderful 101 is most definitely 1st Party. It's a new IP published by Nintendo, and most of the time publishing contracts tend to give the IP rights to the publisher. That's why we consider Pokemon to be a Nintendo franchise.
Lego City is a bit more foggy, and it depends on how you want to define it. It's published by Nintendo, but it's not a Nintendo franchise or developed by Nintendo. I chose to include it, as if Nintendo publishes a game, they put a lot of money into it, and there was likely some degree of oversight.

Well, Nintendo can often be singled out when you are comparing Nintendo to themselves of the past. For example, we can say Sony and Microsoft had bad launch titles in the 8th gen, but they have never had the strongest launch libraries (with the obvious exception of Halo 1)
Nintendo on the other hand reliably has one absolutely mind bogglingly amazing title every launch/launch window. NES had Super Mario Bros. SNES had Super Mario World, N64 had Super Mario 64, GC had Melee, Wii had Wii Sports AND Twilight Princess. And what did the Wii U have? NintendoLand and NSMBU?

@ikahn
Ok. That makes more sense. I get that nostalgia plays a role with Nintendo, especially since they've been the lonest running video game console manufacturers, unless you count PC as a gaming platform. So you think people should be comparing Nintendo from 1985 to Nintendo of 2014. That's totally understandable, but it should be pretty clear that people are comparing Nintendo's exclusives to the other 2's exclusives. Both discussions are relevant.
I was personally more fine with Wii U's launch lineup than Wii's, though, TBH. Zelda and RedSteel were fun, and I played Wii Sports with my family from time to time, but Wii U's launch lineup, including the 3rd party games, is probably the best it's been since GCN. Anything past 2 years and GCN has the better library, IMO, and Wii U hasn't even gotten that far.
