I think the Wii U has a great 1st Party line-up and definitely the best 1st Party line up of this current generation.

shakes your hand in respect And that's nothing againt PS4`s exclusives and Xbox One's exclusives.

The least rotten apple could still be rotten.

I always hate when people defend Nintendo by saying SonySoft do it too.

It depends. People are going to make comparisons, regardless. It's kind of like how people always say Mario/Zelda/etc. is repetitive, Wii U has no games, or that Wii U is "weak". All those situations technically apply to the other consoles or 3rd parties in one way or another, as well, so it doesn't make sense to critically single out one console with that taken into consideration.

Well, Nintendo can often be singled out when you are comparing Nintendo to themselves of the past. For example, we can say Sony and Microsoft had bad launch titles in the 8th gen, but they have never had the strongest launch libraries (with the obvious exception of Halo 1)

Nintendo on the other hand reliably has one absolutely mind bogglingly amazing title every launch/launch window. NES had Super Mario Bros. SNES had Super Mario World, N64 had Super Mario 64, GC had Melee, Wii had Wii Sports AND Twilight Princess. And what did the Wii U have? NintendoLand and NSMBU?

zombie u was good and lego city/monster hunter was exceptional. they are exclusives so yes they count. i think pikmin 3 landed just out side the launch window. they also had game and wario.......ehh maybe we just wont count that one.

I've not been disappointed, I absolutely loved Pikmin 3, MK8 & DK: TF. I dont necessarily need a new game every month or so, I just don't have the time for gaming like I did when I was younger. That may be the reason that I don't mind the limited 1st party serving at the moment, or it may be the fact that my 3ds keeps me sufficiently entertained. Every new major release for the WiiU seems fresh to me and I'm excited to add to my library, definitely not disappointed.

Ok. That makes more sense. I get that nostalgia plays a role with Nintendo, especially since they've been the lonest running video game console manufacturers, unless you count PC as a gaming platform. So you think people should be comparing Nintendo from 1985 to Nintendo of 2014. That's totally understandable, but it should be pretty clear that people are comparing Nintendo's exclusives to the other 2's exclusives. Both discussions are relevant.

I was personally more fine with Wii U's launch lineup than Wii's, though, TBH. Zelda and RedSteel were fun, and I played Wii Sports with my family from time to time, but Wii U's launch lineup, including the 3rd party games, is probably the best it's been since GCN. Anything past 2 years and GCN has the better library, IMO, and Wii U hasn't even gotten that far.

I agree that overall, the Wii U had a pretty solid launch lineup. It was just missing the killer app.

Also, looking at the Wii U and Wii's launches in regards to 3rd Party titles, it more seems that holiday 2006 was just a lot worse than holiday 2012 for gaming general, as both the Wii and Wii U got the major 3rd Party games of that launch year, but for the Wii, the only big non-sports 3rd Party titles among all those were CoD and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance.

For Wii U there was Darksiders II, CoD, Assassin's Creed, Ninja Gaiden 3, Skylanders, and Tekken Tag 2

A killer app can vary from person to person, obviously. I think ZombiU was decent, but it's actually more worth playing now than it was at launch, because it's so cheap now. Ubisoft games jumped down to $20, WB games dropped down to $20, and so on, so I think alot of the problem had to do with people thinking 3rd parties are basically overcharging for basically everything they've put on Wii U. I understood why Wii U was getting direct ports, though, so I bit. I was totally fine with CoD Black Ops II on Wii U. I was actually surprised more people on Xbox 360 didn't jump on board for the Wii U games, because then they wouldn't have to pay for Xbox Live and would get a few extra features from the GamePad, to boot, although I understand that some people care about system wide voice chat. I don't even use that feature unless it's someone I know in person, or occasionally in random matches if I absolutely have to say something.

I got to agree with the Wii scenario. All I recall being excited for was VC, Twilight Princess, and RedSteel. Wii Sports was just there, and the only other game I was considering to get was Rayman, otherwise there wasn't much else, but everyone else ate up Wii Sports. I'm overall surprised at how Wii U has turned out in comparison to Wii, because I remember waiting in line with people that said they just heard about it and wanted to see how the motion controls worked. The launch days weren't similar at all, so I guess everyone that was excited about Wii really never did want the "hardcore" games. (What I would consider) Real Nintendo fans have bought every Nintendo console, even during N64, GCN, and Wii. I think Wii U is finally starting to draw back somewhat of a "core" crowd from other places, and all the bandwagon gamers that bought Wii are just gone or some s***. It doesn't make sense to me how people can go from "Oh, I heard about Wii and it's controller, so I'll buy it", to just not being aware or interested anymore.

Well, it's very possible to want hardcore games and still be intrigued by motion controls. Being intrigued by hardware utilized well by good games SHOULD be the reason you buy a new console. Else, what is the point of making new consoles at all?

I mean, games are important. If Twilight Princess and Wii Sports were bad games with horrible motion control experiences, no one would want a Wii. I mean, I'd even argue that, despite the rest of the lineup being pretty average, the presence of 2 killer apps (defined in a business sense as games that get a large number of people to buy a system, not your personal preference) at launch is what made the Wii such an explosive success.

But at the same time, without some sort of progression of hardware (be it specs, controls, online, whatever), there is no point for a system to exist, at least from a consumer perspective.

Not really. I think Nintendo nails the first party releases. They have great 2D platformers and they have SM3DWorld which is fantastic. Mario Kart 8 is quite beautiful too, and then there are things like Pikmin 3 and Hyrule Warriors which I haven't played but offer diversity. Having publish games like Bayonetta 2 and Devil's Third is quite amazing and offers the complete package.

I am disappointed by the third party releases - we need more Zombi U's and Resident Evil likes. If not, I wish Nintendo take this genre too.
