Topic: idea to attract ps4/xboxone customers to wii u

I have two friends who both have XBones..... Both say they will get a Wii U after Smash and zelda......I think there's a fair number of Nintendo fans out there who haven't bought a Wii U holding out for those two titles. I think you pretty much have to be one of those gamers who still has Nintendo in their heart from growing up. There will probably be about ten titles that they will want an then they pretty much stick to the other console for their core gaming.

Not all PS4 and Xbox One gamers want to play GTA or CoD, though. That's just a stereotype. I'm honestly pretty sick of FPS games, regardless of console.

Ya, I would be sick of them too if I owned all the Wii U COD games and Titanfall on Xbox One as well.

Have you got Destiny pre-ordered already?

My idea:

'New' Wii U (NWU) with 720p gamepad (probably about the same battery life as it has now but oh well) but also in a slightly smaller size. Also support for 4 gamepads and start selling those individually as well. Along with the face plates like the N3DS is getting. Give it the ability to play N3DS titles. $500 with N3DS BC or $400 without. I think it'd sell better with it since that gives it a great library (especially if it keeps BC with regular DS as well). Might want to give it something like a hybrid hard drive for more storage while remaining speedy at doing things like opening apps and such.

everything's good and it'll be that way forever!

i fear it won t be enough... withoit big productions like gta, metal gear, cod, wiiu will always be seen as a niche console...or a secondary one... nowaday ps/xbox are full of jrpg, action adventure games or whatsoever, is not one of each kind, even if well realized, that is gonna move customers towards the console...

i believe the wiiu role in this generation is pretty much settled down, a good secondary cobsole which act as Nintendo box (and few other interesting exclusives)... there is too many gaming genre which are missing, and too few developer supporting the console to cover these gaps...

It was Nintendo who couldn't shut up about power and graphics in the 16 and 64 bit days, you know, back when they had a pair.

@foodmetaphors This suggestion would basically screw all the current wii u users.

They could announce it at E3 '15 or '16 and release it holiday '16 and that would give the Wii U 4 years on the market. That's more than enough considering its terrible sales. It'll also have gotten Smash U and Zelda U by then (along with all the other great titles that were announced this past E3) so it'll be hard to complain that Nintendo ignored or abandoned it.

That would kill sales for 2015. i'd imaginethey would want to ride the Zelda release, plus all the other titles, for at least a year. So, announce, 2016, with a release in 2017. imo, we wont see new console till 2018. That'sabout how long the Wii lasted, right?

It will still mean that the early adopter are abandoned... if N do something like that, npt only the console, but the all imagr of the brand will be doomed.... I will honestly never buy any of their consoles anymore, at least not in the first 5 years of its lifespan... (they are already doing something like this with 3ds... pissing a considerable part of theor fanbase)

Yup, exactly. Do it like the PS4: Super powerfull, no games whatsoever = profit.

In all fairness, the WiiU IS the best selling argument already. Its a console for and with videogames. Everyone of my friends i had over to play with it went out and got one themselfes. If you read about it on the web, you wont.
No one will ever buy a system whose own fanbase is singing its last farewells preemtively. Hailing a system DOES actually work, like i said, just look at the PS4. It has the same problems the WiiU suffered and it still sold like crazy because of its good press alone.
If you want to see the WiiU strife, stop talking about it like its dead already. Like i said, everyone i know who actually tried it got one. I even know a handfull of people who sold their next gen systems to get a WiiU instead.
Why ? because "it was so much fun !"

Maximillian Dood posted a great video on his Youtube channel explaining the situation of the Wii U, Xbox One and PS4. Its a image perspective and the PS4 has the best image to the public right now.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

I think as an earlier poster mentioned, the Wii U has already carved out its position as a largely Nintendo only box (with a few exclusives).........unless it releases something which becomes a phenomenon (IE Wii Sports or the og Pokemon), it will be third fiddle.

It's going to appeal to Nintendo diehards and those looking for a secondary console, but without a large variety of genres or third party support, most consumers will pass it over.

@Blast That's not Maximillian Dood, that's his friend Matt who made the video and posted on his youtube channel called Yo Videogames.

111 playable games. One hundred and eleven. In its first year.

If you count what's been announced that number is about to triple. I'll say it again for full effect: TRIPLE. Just thought I'd throw some facts into the mix, seeing as these topics tend to devolve into blind fanboyism.

It's not just an image thing, either. Gamers, in general, aren't stupid. They know what's coming. They know the Wii U is a sinking ship. If you want a "Nintendo Box" fine, go ahead and buy one, I'm sure you'll be super happy with it. Just don't expect many people to "waste" a bare minimum of €300 on one.

I second that, the whole "next-gen" has no games is so bloated, and to be honest, I think the PS4/XB1 have been getting the lion share of quality indie titles.

Nah. I was kind of hyped, at first, but then I realized I probably wouldn't play it as much once Halo collection comes out. It's a game that needs and eats up alot of time. I don't think I can balance out Halo and Destiny, so I'm choosing Halo.

So? Wii U has around 220 games you can buy with 100 on the way, and alot of them were out before PS4 and Xbox One came out, so anyone who chose Xbox One or PS4 basically chose 0 new games instead of whatever Wii U had at the beginning of 2013. So gamers know what's coming, but not what is available now, which is what people are complaining about in the first place. Gotcha'

Even if Wii U had 1000 more games, with the current 3rd party lineup, and somehow got Crash Bandicoot as exclusive, PS gamers still wouldn't buy the damn thing, so who give's a crap?

Nah, PC gamers are easy pray for Nintendo. All Nintendo needs to do is make their console cheap (check), make a great controller with a great D-Pad (Pro, check) and then open it up so they can use it on their PC out of the box (boo). Lets be real blunt here, the main reason PC Gamers liked the 360 was because the 360 controller was basically plug-and-play. The Wii was a hit because it's controller opened up a bunch of cool little experimental stuffs.

The Pro? Well yeah, you can get it working but it's a real pain. You either have to wander around the 'net for janky solutions or you buy one of those MayFlash devices. Make the controller work well, release a bunch of games you will never see on PC and make it cheap? PC gamers will be all over it.
