I just want the Nintendo account to work as a Steam/Google Play account. Once bought, you'll have it forever on all upcoming platforms/hardware. Linked VC is also important.

Why would Nintendo do that if they can more money this way. It's all about money dear otherwise you would be able to use your login account like Xbox 360 on your new console and still be able to redownload what you've bought. That's an option that Nintendo (i don't see soon happening) will not be included

Than they'll continue to lost customers as people expect much more from Nintendo. When everyone else has proper account systems you sort of think Nintendo needs one as well.

I don't care about unifying or cross buy but they need to make it so you don't lose all your digital downloads if your console is lost or stolen and so you don't need to sell the console to Nintendo to transfer games to a new a one if its not working..... tying games to the console is unnaceptable..... bringing NNID to 3DS is not a positive step as many have claimed, it just made things worst by country locking customers and not allowing them to freely sell their consoels with digital games without really giving any benefits to 3DS owners without a Wii U (statistically the majority)

Yepp, if you don't go with the times you'll indeed lose customers, but then again, there's those people who will buy a Nintendo console for the 1st party titles despite happens. (That mostly includes me...)

Can PS4 and Xbone users login onto their new consoles with their old ID's and redownload/play all their previous downloads from the previous generation?

i just want an account system that is based on me, not my consoles. i pay for the games not my consoles. i doubt nintendo has any intention of doing this in my lifetime because they just don't care that the majority of owners want it. they will never get online right and they won't get the account system right.

until they care more about what customers want than their own egos, it ain't gonna happen. as they say when you write them "I know this isn't what you want to hear but..."

I am pretty sure they have said they are transitioning to an account system and moving forward they will relate to customers through NNID and not based on Hardware.

Nope, but that's due to hardware not software. Once I downloaded my gamertag, once I logged into my Xbox One it downloaded everything else associated with my gamertag get brought through.

I was able to redownload a bunch of PSP games (as well as PSOne Classics I have on my PSP) onto my Vita, which I thought was a nice touch.

Its cause its hardware capable something the PS4/Xbox One can't do.

But with cross buy, a whole bunch of those indie games can be downloaded for free when they come out on PS4, if you bought them on PS3/Vita before. I don't have a PS4, but if I bought one, I'd be able to log in and download Escape Plan, Fez, Flow, Flower, Hotline Miami, Sound Shapes, Steamworld Dig and Zen Pinball 2 without spending a penny. Once games like Guacamelee, Spelunky and Rogue Legacy are available on the PS4, you won't have to buy them again either.

It's a great system and I don't really understand why any customer would NOT want Nintendo to do this?

There should be no future handheld console. Only a Wii U successor and gamepad.

The gamepad will store downloaded games on SD Card so you can use it as a portable handheld away from the main console.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

I hope the unified platform Nintendo is going for means the physical option is 3DS style Cartridges that support either system. (Or I would be ok with their not being one).

Is the Sony Cross Buy affected by phone home DRM ? (I don't trust them at all as a company). I find it hard to believe they will let you just load content and never turn wifi on again.

If Nintendo just allowed deactivating on one and moving to another I think that would be ok for me. (No phone home DRM).

The Microsoft original idea I might have been ok with (3 Brothers in seperate residences on a family account presuming that was allowed). I despise optical disks.

@unrandomsam I don't understand your question, people tend to confuse Cross Buy with account system, when the two things do not necessarily go toghether cross buy is a glorified 2 for 1, buy PS3 version, get Vita version for free, Nintendo could achieve the same thing without having an account system they could be buy on Wii U get a free download code for use on your 3DS..

Now I don't really care much about cross buy, but i care about an account system that allows you to retrieve your games is something happen to your system without having to send it back to the manufacturer. Nintendo does not have that, which means that if your system is lost or stolen or you cannot send to Nintendo (for example because you are in country where Nintendo does not have offices) all your digital purchases are gone forever... Sony and Microsoft have systems that allow you to retrieve download games even if the system is not working without having to send the system back to them and no they don't use phone in DRM, they have a number of controls that leave a very small chance that someone could double up his/her digital games by keeping a system always offline but they assume that risk because the benefits of increased digital sales are more important...

FWIW, Pullblox World is released in Europe on the 19th of June. Existing users of the 3DS version will get a discounted price. I can't see how that's going to work, unless the 5.0.0 update provided some sort of unified accounts?

Ever since the December update for 3DS, unified account systems have existed.

Just because Nintendo does not have cross buy does not mean the accounts are not unified!

And just because there are unified accounts doesn't mean we can use them as such, and that's the main problem. Nintendo STILL ties every digital purchase you make to the serial number of one specific console, and they only let you link your NNID to ONE 3DS and ONE Wii U.

I doubt the next generation will fully unify the home and handheld, in fact back in that press conference in January they pretty much implied that they won't be, but instead they're going to be "like brothers". They probably will add things like crossbuy and crossplay though as they expand their account system.
