Just buy the WiiU because all the games on PSONE look exactly the same as the games PS360 has had for the past 7 years

Well, the biggest reason to buy a console is if there are any games you want on it (the whole war over processing power nowadays is silly, why buy a console that produces super awesome graphics when it doesn't have any games you want?), so I say if there's any games that interest you at the moment, go buy it. A lot of people have already listed a ton of good ones that are around and coming. Otherwise, wait until a game you're interested in comes out on the off-chance that a price cut comes or a new bundle comes out that interests you (Or as a guarantee that the game you're getting is what you wanted in the first place. I preordered the 3DS looking forward to the new Paper Mario game, only to get an alright game a year and a half later that bared the name, but wasn't what I expected and wanted at all. But at least that wasn't my only reason for buying the console). That said, I don't see the Wii U getting a price cut soon, not even a year from now. Nintendo's already selling the system at a loss, if they slashed the price more they could risk becoming financially unstable or will have to cut off some features, and I can't think of anything they could cut that would substantially reduce the price without taking out an important part of the system, besides maybe replacing the Wi-Fi with a LAN Port, but I don't see why they would do that when most people use Wi-Fi to connect their consoles to the internet.

tl;dr Buy it now if you want to play the games currently available, or buy it after an interesting title makes it's way to stores.

I'm pretty okay.

Wait until later. I'm a Wii U owner, and I can say that there's basically zero compelling games unique to the system right now, and nothing will come until Pikmin 3. You'll get bored quick with it unless if you don't happen to own a PS3 or 360, in which case I suppose you could get some 3rd party stuff. Plus, we don't exactly know what Nintendo's going to do for their line-up after the holidays. I suspect another major drought after the holidays.
If you just have to have a Wii U, wait for a black Friday deal. It will most certainly have one (just look at the Vita).

If he isn't a Wii u owner there is plenty to play until Pikmin(one more month). There is games he hasn't played like Nintendoland, NSMBU(NSLU), ZombiU, Lego, eshop games, game/wario. + any ports he missed on other systems, and of course just with MH3U there is more than enough content to keep someone busy for an entire month with just that game alone

Personally, I rented Sniper and Game/Wario for this month to keep me busy + I have my 3ds and I'm still addicted Fire Emblem thats getting heavy play lately and I still pop in MH3U once or twice a week.

It depends on what TC has or hasn't played... If there is one or two exclusives he hasn't played it could be enough

Congrats!!

Strangely, I'm hungry for a sandwich and grapes now.... Be sure to give us an update on how you like the system after you work your way around it a bit.

Ok, you asked for it!

Here's a review of the sandwich.

I loved the bread. The turkey went really well with the pickles and lettuce. The pickles especially gave it some great flavor that you just can't get with just the turkey and lettuce.

The grapes were refreshing and went well with the sammich.

Now, here's my first impressions review of the WiiU. I may make a full review sometime later.

A few things before I start:
I've only probably used the console for an hour or two when you take out updating time.
I bought the console mostly for games coming out later this year and next year.

Now then.

What I bought:

  • WiiU Deluxe Edition
  • S. Mario Bros U
  • Gamestop membership card thingimibobber because it saved me $5.

Hardware & Accessories
There's only one big disappointment with the hardware, and that's the console's specs. One GB of RAM for games and low clock speeds are disappointing. I'm sure devs will do more than fine with it, though. (This is the WiiU's biggest problem.)

Now, onto the good. The Deluxe WiiU itself looks great. I like the curvy look. It's a little loud when I have the Tv of and I'm just using the gamepad (Yes, I actually do that), but the sound isn't noticeable when I'm playing games. The discs that go into the machine feel really good to touch for some reason, and it takes the discs very easily--unlike my wii where sometimes it didn't pull in the disk when one was inserted.

The Pro controller is probably one of the best feeling controllers I've ever had the pleasure of holding. I have extremely large and sweaty hands. The controller's size accommodates them perfectly. The analog sticks are just resistant and rubbery enough that my fingers don't slip off and they feel high quality. They slide easily, and never get caught in one place.

And gosh, the Pro controller's screen is so much better than I thought it was. It's actually pretty high-res looking even from right next to me, shows great colors, and I've had no problem with playing games on it and not the TV. It's really useful to play games on it instead of my TV right now, as my TV has a weird green tint I need to fix that makes games look like crap.

The touch screen on the Pro Controller is responsive and easy to use so far. No complains there.

Software

The bad:
These update times are ridiculous. I shouldn't have to spend hours to update the console THEN have to update every simile app the first time I start it. You can't just load my console with that data beforehand? REALLY nintendo?

The youtube app as I've used it so far is unintuitive. It's hard to navigate, there's no real menu, and it's hard to work the video controls on the TV.

The hulu app wouldn't even start last night. Sigh

The good:

The actual WiiU's software is very similar to the Wii's. The menu is simple. I like being able to use the touchpad to navigate it and places like the e-shop. The touchpad makes most apps very intuitive to use and get around in.

The internet browser is nice and responsive. No problems there yet.

The touchpad's software is great. I can control my TV with it... which is really nice. I also like how I can play games on it. That feature is really useful and I'l use it a lot more than other people will. HOWEVER, I would rather have had nintendo spend less money on the controller for just a little more CPU and RAM power in the actual console.

I played SMBU for about 30 minutes and finished 3 levels. Graphics looks great, and it was fun (I only played it on the gamepad screen.),

I haven't tried nintendoland yet.

That's it. I may make a full review in a couple of weeks or so.

Hmm any reason why units this late in production don't come with the updates?

Also depending on how much eshop stuff you buy get a hardrive.

The consoles after the summer OS will probably be when they start having it updated.

@OP
They're still working out the kinks in the OS and such, which effects the apps at times(sometimes the software).

Glad to hear you enjoyed your sandwich.
Turkey and pickles are the best, as long as they are dill and not sweet. I can't stand sweet pickles.

I'm not so bothered by the specs of the system... It's usually the last thing I think about when purchasing a console.... Monster specs and graphic whoring I save for PC gaming only.

What Nintendo showed at E3 makes me feel confident enough that they don't have anything to worry about from Sony/Microsoft. Nintendo is on the cusp of diminishing returns with their art styles and stronger hardware wouldn't do very much for Mario Kart 8. They proved its easily faster than the ps360, with every game looking fantastic while running them at 60fps... And after 7 years of sub 30fps gaming on the ps3 I'm done with it. Never going back to horrible frame rates

(why in the hell did Sony only target 30fps with their ps4 exclusives? Terrible decision for a system 6 or 7 times faster than the Wii U, it really makes the Wii U stand out even more so, as the frame rate is extremely important to how a game feels when you play it. The Wii u is no where as weak as people make it out to be, because it would be impossible for these games to run 60fps if it was just on par or slightly faster than the ps360)
