I'm a caveman and it only took me ten minutes.

It's like people here think Wii U systems are shoes.

Wait until later. I'm a Wii U owner, and I can say that there's basically zero compelling games unique to the system right now, and nothing will come until Pikmin 3. You'll get bored quick with it unless if you don't happen to own a PS3 or 360, in which case I suppose you could get some 3rd party stuff. Plus, we don't exactly know what Nintendo's going to do for their line-up after the holidays. I suspect another major drought after the holidays.
If you just have to have a Wii U, wait for a black Friday deal. It will most certainly have one (just look at the Vita).

I'm waiting to see how the wii u turns out myself, just not enough content that appeals to me right now on the thing, nor enough on the way really not that any of the other upcoming consoles appeal to me at this point either, I'll be sticking to 3DS and PC for a few months more most likely.

Another question: Does the WiiU offer the downloadable titles that were in the Wii's virtual store?

Yes. There's a Wii Menu that lets you buy anything that the Wii Shop had, and play it in 'Wii Mode'.

Some Virtual Console games cross over. WiiWare titles do not but you can still buy and play Wiiware on your Wii U while in the Wii Mode.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

They're currently transferring them to the Wii U eShop in various quantities once a week. You can still buy them off of the Wii Shop for now, but that doesn't include some Wii U features(GamePad, Pro, restore points).
The games will be kept in the Wii menu(where you can play them like you always have), and you have to upgrade them for a small fee in order to transfer them to the Wii U menu.
I tried to explain it the best I can, but it will make more sense when you actually have a Wii U.
You can transfer your Wii purchases and data to the Wii U. That's how you get the games you already own onto the Wii U.

That isn't even out yet. Why would he do that?

Honestly, the best time to get one would be after summer, but if there are enough games to you want to play right now then go for it.

Yeah this is what I'm doing. I hate how publishers think it's a good idea to release all of their games in less than two months. With all the good stuff coming out later this summer and in the fall, I won't have the money to get a Wii U and all the games I want.

No, but you can play them via the Wii Emulator if you did the whole transfer over.

If you can get the deluxe version for $300 i would snag it, there was a sale not to long ago at tiger direct and 4th of july is around the corner so expect sales.

No, but you can play them on the Wii Menu part of the Wii U. It will probably cost $1.50 to upgrade them to the Wii U menu when they become available(there aren't any N64 games on the Wii U VC yet, so no one knows the for sure upgrade price).
When you upgrade, you can use the GamePad as your main screen, you can edit button configurations however you want, you can use the Pro controller, and you can use Wii remotes and classic controllers like usual. You can also use restore points, which allows you to create a checkpoint in any part of the game.

Wait until 2014 when it'll be cheaper and have smash bros.

What I technically meant to say was that the OP will have time to try out the early installments (like Nintendo Land) and get a "feel" for how games play on the system. Not that big a deal like you've said, but hey can't hurt.

Actually, WingedFish is correct here.

I'm a PC Gamer. I haven't done console games outside of 3DS and Wii titles like Mario Kart for a rather long time. So that time could be useful, as analog sticks, for example, will be a big change for me.

No, I'm not being sarcastic.

Prof_Elvin_Gadd

I would. If Nintendo were to do a price drop, they would only lower it to $300 anyhow, and I don't see them doing that until next year. They would be dumb to lower the price before they release some of their bigger IP's, and they know that as much as I do. Pikmin 3 comes out in a month, which is the reason I bought the system. The only caution I would throw your way is if you want a "Special Edition" or "Limited Edition" model then you would obviously want to wait. Granted, I only have 3 games for the Wii U at the moment, but I don't regret getting the system one iota. I have a PS3 and 3DS as well though, so I'm never hurting for options.

If you get it now, you will be picking it up 1 month out from the end of the software drought... Starting in August in North America, Nintendo will be releasing one big game per month until the end of the year.

So If you think Nintendo Land and NSMBU will be enough to hold you over for 1 month, I'd say go for it..... Also ZombiU is worth checking out as well.

TysonOfTime

Ehh. If you get one now you'll have more time to play the current software as we get closer the new games. If nothing interests you, there'd be no real reason to consider getting it now, unless you truly want the feeling of "knowing" a system before the wave of games hits.

There's no real decisive factor that can persuade you from the outside. If you like what is out, go for it. If not, waiting won't hurt.

And if waiting does hurt, I think it's obvious what needs to be done.

Most NES games = $5, upgrade price = $1
Most SNES games = $8, upgrade price = $1.50
Most N64 games = $10, upgrade price = Maybe we can assume $2?
