Topic: I could buy a WiiU today. Go for it or wait? *Bought one, First Impressions Review Written*

So I want a WiiU.

I have the chance to get it today if I so desire. Would you recommend I get it now or should I wait?

I'l be getting one either way eventually. the question is when. Currently the only games I'm really looking at are Mario Bro's U and Nintendo land (excluding stuff on the Virtual Store), the rest I want are coming later this year.

I also have some Wii titles to keep my busy.

Edit: Bought one!

Ok, you asked for it!

Here's a review of the sandwich.

I loved the bread. The turkey went really well with the pickles and lettuce. The pickles especially gave it some great flavor that you just can't get with just the turkey and lettuce.

The grapes were refreshing and went well with the sammich.

Now, here's my first impressions review of the WiiU. I may make a full review sometime later.

A few things before I start:
I've only probably used the console for an hour or two when you take out updating time.
I bought the console mostly for games coming out later this year and next year.

Now then.

What I bought:

  • WiiU Deluxe Edition
  • S. Mario Bros U
  • Gamestop membership card thingimibobber because it saved me $5.

Hardware & Accessories
There's only one big disappointment with the hardware, and that's the console's specs. One GB of RAM for games and low clock speeds are disappointing. I'm sure devs will do more than fine with it, though. (This is the WiiU's biggest problem.)

Now, onto the good. The Deluxe WiiU itself looks great. I like the curvy look. It's a little loud when I have the Tv of and I'm just using the gamepad (Yes, I actually do that), but the sound isn't noticeable when I'm playing games. The discs that go into the machine feel really good to touch for some reason, and it takes the discs very easily--unlike my wii where sometimes it didn't pull in the disk when one was inserted.

The Pro controller is probably one of the best feeling controllers I've ever had the pleasure of holding. I have extremely large and sweaty hands. The controller's size accommodates them perfectly. The analog sticks are just resistant and rubbery enough that my fingers don't slip off and they feel high quality. They slide easily, and never get caught in one place.

And gosh, the Pro controller's screen is so much better than I thought it was. It's actually pretty high-res looking even from right next to me, shows great colors, and I've had no problem with playing games on it and not the TV. It's really useful to play games on it instead of my TV right now, as my TV has a weird green tint I need to fix that makes games look like crap.

The touch screen on the Pro Controller is responsive and easy to use so far. No complains there.

Software

The bad:
These update times are ridiculous. I shouldn't have to spend hours to update the console THEN have to update every simile app the first time I start it. You can't just load my console with that data beforehand? REALLY nintendo?

The youtube app as I've used it so far is unintuitive. It's hard to navigate, there's no real menu, and it's hard to work the video controls on the TV.

The hulu app wouldn't even start last night. Sigh

The good:

The actual WiiU's software is very similar to the Wii's. The menu is simple. I like being able to use the touchpad to navigate it and places like the e-shop. The touchpad makes most apps very intuitive to use and get around in.

The internet browser is nice and responsive. No problems there yet.

The touchpad's software is great. I can control my TV with it... which is really nice. I also like how I can play games on it. That feature is really useful and I'l use it a lot more than other people will. HOWEVER, I would rather have had nintendo spend less money on the controller for just a little more CPU and RAM power in the actual console.

I played SMBU for about 30 minutes and finished 3 levels. Graphics looks great, and it was fun (I only played it on the gamepad screen.),

I haven't tried nintendoland yet.

That's it. I may make a full review in a couple of weeks or so.

Go for it. $50 off seems like a good deal for this system.

Was Mariobro4. No, I'm not taking off my backpack...it's important.

If you could save $50 I'd go for it now. I believe nintendo will stick with their no price drop plan.

I would go for it. As others have said, the price drop probably won't happen until the fall at the earliest, so you'd be waiting a few months minimum if you hold out.

I would get it. You can use the $50 towards a good sized hard drive, game, or controller.

Edit: Called up the store and looks like my friend was wrong. Still recommend getting one even at full price?

Lord no. That thing will receive a price drop in the next several months.

Companies always deny it, but it will happen. Worst case scenario, wait until Black Friday and get it on sale somewhere then. Paying this much before the holidays seems unwise, especially given the small library at the moment.

Buy it and get Game & Wario. That game is soooo fun!

Ask yourself about PS4 first, see if you might want that instead.

SCRAPPER392

If they do a price drop, it will be the price you can get it for now($50), so I would just get it.

You COULD wait until the holidays to wait for deals, but that, or a price drop isn't guaranteed.

If you're going to for sure get it at any given point in time, you might as well get it now.

EDIT: The only way I see Wii U getting a price drop, is if Microsoft and Sony do price drops on the Xbox One and PS4.

Grab one now, I got mine in the mail yesterday it's a great console. You could wait months for a price drop. Think of all the months of fun you can have playing the wii u right now instead of waiting

You could wait it out to get a better handle on the gaming landscape. I do it every gen, with PS2 being an exception. My old consoles still have plenty of life.

If there's a game u just gotta play get it then. It's a great system and once you're playing that game you won't regret it even though the library of games is small (non-existant if you're a 1st party gamer). At least that's how I felt when I got mine at launch.

I personally suggest to get it now so that you'll have time to save up for the holiday glut later on. Not to mention you will also get to familiarize yourself with the system and how things work during that time gap as well.

I recommend getting it now. I already have a back-catalog of Wii U games (of retail, download, and virtual console games)

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Responding to earlier post: I'm not interested in PS4 or XB1. I have a high-end gaming PC for that stuff.

How long does it take to become familiar with a system? Four to five minutes? Unless the TC is a caveman I don't think he'll need tons of time learning how to use the console.

You missed the part where its not on sale any more.

I'd wait until Mario is out, I own one and I can safely say there is no need in having one right now.
