Topic: How about cheaper games but with a bunch of DLC added?

Instead of $60 games, you only pay $40 but there is $20 worth of DLC instead of in-game unlockables.

You would still pay the same cost for the full game but you have the option to pay for a cheaper but incomplete game.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

This thread does not help in convincing people that DLC can be a good thing.

There are games that do this, though. I like to buy a full and complete game when I get one, not a full and complete game that had half its content taken out available for separate purchase.

There are games that do this well - selling games in segments mean that if you get bored of it or just dont want to pay for any more of it you have that option. The problem comes when DLC starts to add up to more than the full price of the title. It's all well and good to have DLC - but when it's adding an extra $20-30 on top of the initial $60 then it's a problem. The other easy answer is for developers to cut out parts of the game and sell them as DLC, which is where the sour tastes people have on DLC come from. I also want to point out that even if the DLC is made after the main game is released it doesnt necessarily mean that the game is complete without it - it could just mean its development was held back in order to make more money.

somehow I don't see anyone putting forth that kind of effort to create yet another set of skus for their games, really, and the same for the effort involved in programming the games to function properly with or without the DLC added to be 'complete'. they're either going to do it one way or the other, and to be honest i'd prefer not having to pay for DLC in order to be able to :C: my games — heaven forbid my console dies or is stolen and I have to replace it in the future when the DLC for that particular game is no longer supported, y'know? plus, it's better for our friends in countries that perhaps don't have support from or easy access to these digital storefronts for things to be as complete as possible once they're purchased.

Well some games if their DLC was included in the retail cost would likely be $80 or $90.

$60 is the high end cost people are happy to pay for games, but games shouldn't be capped to fit into a $60 price limit. A game that is worth $90 wouldn't sell at $90 but that doesn't mean they should not make games that are worth $90. If $30 worth of that game is withheld and sold as DLC then so be it.

Not everyone needs 100% of DLC. I don't feel like I'm missing something important just because I have not downloaded paid DLC gems in Street Fighter X Tekken.

I'd say very few games are worth $90 in the first place though - and if they are, it's not because of how much content they have, it's because of the quality of that content, and holding back some of it as DLC doesnt mean it's suddenly worth more.

The Wii U already has low memory, 32gbs isn't alot, a standards 360 has 60gbs and that console is always updating and taking up data.
If the Wii U needed DLC for every game, then your gonna need two Wii U consoles.

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

I'm not paying more money on top... I want the whole game from the start, not unlock the rest by paying for it.

Please tell me you are joking.

THAT WOULD MARK THE END OF THE WORLD IF THEY DID THAT! I spent $20 on Theatrhythm DLC, but at least that was optional, if they made it required, it would be a nightmare.

You can add external hard drives upto 3 terabytes, or use sd cards, USB thumb drives etc.. 32 is just what the system comes with, but it in no way limited to that much

Truthfully thats how I see DLC now anyways. But instead of paying 40 we are paying 60 now.
