Just a quick question. Does anyone know how many games will support the GameCube controller adaptor??

I think right now only Smash Bros but I wouldnt be surprised if they do an update to VC games work with a GC controller.

Probably early copies of GameCube-compatable Wii games such as Brawl. The reprints lack the GameCube controller in the top right corner of the back covers.

That would be nice. Then I wouldn't need my Wii to play GoldenEye with my friends anymore.

I can probably see Mario Kart 8 and possibly Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate being compatible with the adapter.

Having a reprint copy makes absolutely no difference on GC controller support. They only changed it because they removed the ports on later Wiis. It still works, though.

Has anyone tried it yet? It might work.

Are the GC adapters out now? I thought they came out when Smash Bros U comes out.

I have the mayflash adapter. It allows me to use a GC controller whenever a classic controller can be used. It works with a lot of games. I have tried it with mario kart 8 with success. I have also tried it with some VC games with success.

Even if there's not support for a lot of games out of the box I wouldn't be that surprised if they patched in support down the road. They've done it with the Pro Controller and they even added entirely new control schemes for Pikmin 3. I would imagine that at the very least they'd go back and add support for these control options in Mario Kart. I also wouldn't be that surprised if WiiMode sees this as the GC ports ontop of the original Wii.... but I wouldn't bet on that.

edit: and I have to add. Those third party adapters work by tricking the WiiMote into thinking the thing attached to it is a Classic Controller. It's not the same as what this GC adapter is doing. If they add support for this adapter the game will know you're using the GC controller.

Why are people so obsessed with the GameCube controller?

Because some people think it's the best control ever made

Because it's extremely comfortable to hold and play with. It's just the right size for both big and small hands, and the triggers and button placement are wonderful. Honestly, I hope that Nintendo uses the Gamecube controller design for their next console controller, but also add a couple buttons. (Like ZR and ZL.) Imagine a NEXT GEN gamecube controller! drools

It is too small for my hands. That gigantic first xbox one is the best size for my hands. And the dpad is junk.

To each their own I suppose! I also think the Nintendo Gamecube D-pad wasn't the greatest, so I never preferred that controller for 2D games.

The product listing at a few retailers mention that it will also be supported by whatever the Wii predecessor is to this game, played via Wii mode.

Not my favorite controller. Tiny d-pad, a tiny right analog stick, the odd two stage trigger design wasn't ideal for racers, the Z button or whatever it was called wasn't conveniently laid out, and I preferred Nintendo's SuperNes button setup for ABXY over these oddly shaped buttons. But just the same, I'm looking forward to hopefully be able to once again use my Wavebird with stuff like my N64 downloads, in Mario Kart 8, etc.

Same here I have 4 Wavebirds on standby waiting for the adapter. I wonder if by bringing out this adapter will bring Wavebird's back in production.

If they didn't reappear during the Wii years when Wavebirds soared in demand since they were out of production yet so useful in many of the Wii's best games (And didn't need an adapter to be used), they almost certainly never will.

I don't even think North America got the white GameCube controller with the extra long controller cord that Japan received during the early years of the Wii to complement it with one styled to match.

How come I have a feeling that Nintendo will force you to purchase the Gamecube adapter to play Gamecube Wii U VC games, but will pass on pro controller comparability due to the severe oversight of analog triggers.......

WTF......how about getting the excellent pro controller design right the first time around......and come out with a wired model.

Considering that you had to buy a Classic Controller for some games on the Wii Shop Channel, I don't see how it'd be any different.

As for getting the design right the first time....yeah, I agree.

But I don't see the point of a wired model.
