At the end of January 2014, Nintendo announced that they were looking towards mergers and new game studio acquisitions.

So far nothing else has been said about it since. Do we expect something at E3? And what studios would you want Nintendo to buy and/or merge with? For mergers, I was thinking maybe Capcom or Sega. For game studio acquisitions, maybe Platinum Games, Wayforward, Sumo Digital, Monster Games, Level 5. It would also be really nice if Nintendo could somehow get Rare back from microsoft.

Yoshi

Hmmmm...maybe.

And Rare should just be left alone, what's done is done.

Weren't these just going to be primarily for the QOL. If Nintendo has acquired anything it would be announced at next weeks Iinvestor meeting.

Why does everyone want Rare back with Nintendo. Honestly do people honestly think that if Nintendo bought Rare from MS they would magically turn back into the Rare of the mid 90's. For one thing most of the staff from that time is gone, so its all different people. Nintendo not having Rare is not as big of a deal as people make it out to be.

The main point of buying Rare back would be the IPs. As for the actual development team, nintendo could either fire them and reassemble the old team. Or they could train them to actually make quality games, like they did with retro studios. Because let's face it, Rare was much better off with nintendo than they are with microsoft.

They're not getting Rare. Plain and simple.

And no, this is not something to announce at e3. This is more for an investors' meeting

I would like to see nintendo buy a few studios because they desperately need an edge in the short-term and there's not enough first party games to get that edge. Maybe buy Capcom, but that's probably just wishful thinking. I think they should try and buy wayforward too because they keep growing and gaining more prominence in the industry, not to mention they're a perfect fit for the family friendly yet hardcore style nintendo's best at.

Nintendo wouldn't get any IPs developed by Rare, since they belong to Microsoft. Just as Microsoft didn't get the DK IP.

for every good wayforward game they make three or four piles of crap. realy look it up.
i would rather them buy platinum or level 5 seeing as how sega picked up atlus. i would love to see sega and ninty merge as well. it would start an internet meltdown. unfortunately sammy would never let that happen and it would cost too much.

I doubt it would ever happen, but it would be nice to see Nintendo partner with Red Thread Games just so we could guarantee that all of Ragnar Tournquist's future works will make it to the Wii U.

If they merge with Sega, does that mean we'll get a new NiGHTS or Jet Set Radio?
looks at Star Fox and F-Zero
...Nah...

Seriously though, I could see them acquiring Sumo Digital.

As for when anything like this would be announced though, I think Unca_Lz is right about it being more of a thing to be announced at an investors meeting. The only way I could see them announcing this at E3 is if it's a HUGE merger (like Capcom or Sega), and they announce a big game coming out of it.

Who says that they were better off with Nintendo then MS? The must be doing pretty good if they are still around.

Are you serious? The quality of rare's games have completely gone down the toilet after being with microsoft. The last console rare game on nintendo was star fox adventures. Which was about an 8.0. The first rare game for microsoft was grabbed by the ghoulies. A 4.0 at best, easily their worse game to date. I believe that if rare had stayed with nintendo, they would still be great today.
