Topic: What do you think the future of the Wii U will be?

@mamp, there's only 20 million of us? Well I guess that explains the Gamecube's sales then ._.

Anyways, I think the Wii U will have okay success. It won't be a failure by any means, but I just don't see it doing anywhere near as excellent as the Wii did. It just doesn't have that "wow" factor for the average consumer. For many Nintendo fans, this will be a great system, but the success of the Wii is very hard to follow.

I hope I'm proven wrong of course.

I imagine at E3 next year we'll hear about the next xbox. The 360 is older than the Wii... although you couldn't tell by looking at them.

Having a tablet anything is a huge wow factor for many consumers. A lot of the success of the iPad comes from "WOO! TABLET!"
Having motion controls is certainly burnt out with all 3 of the Big 3 using them.
And anyways, from the people I've talked to, quite a few are 'wowed' by the Tablet control. Few of the people who follow gaming news were 'wowed', just the people who don't follow games too much.
It may not be the same with all of the 'casual' crowd, but from what I've investigated there is a chance of another smash hit like the Wii.
Also, the fact that it'll be the newest console for at least 1-2 years, along with the fact Sony and MS not being able to announce said new consoles until E3, (which at that tine will be at the least 6 months after WiiU Launch) the WiiU may have a bit of upkeep in it's lifetime sales.

@TysonQ7, I guess I see what you mean.

But its the fact that we already have tablets that its like...not as big of a deal. Its the first of its kind for gaming, having a second screen that interacts with the TV. But that doesn't interest let's say the "everyone" crowd that loved the Wii. There was nothing like the Wii before its time, that's why it started such a craze when it came out. Part of me feels like the Wii U launch will be just the Nintendo fans, and that's it.

I don't know.

I'm fairly certain it will be a success. I mean, with the brilliant Wii and DS sales along with Nintendo's great games, people will look to it for those experiences alone. Not to mention, the system will be powerful enough to handle the great PS360 games of this generation to give to the people who didn't have a PS3 or 360. And on top of that, with bangin' launch window titles such as ZombiU, Lego City Undercover, Mass Effect 3, and Tekken Tag Tournament, why wouldn't it do well?

I predict at least 6-10 million worldwide by this time next year.

Also it should have about a year headstart on PS4 and 720... A whole year of games, improvements, updates, sales, and hype.

Well, it's going to (as in: IT BETTER) be priced lower than the Main Tablet, the iPad, which is now established with consumers as something 'everyone wants'. It will be made by Nintendo, the same company that brought those families of consumers Mario, and that amazing system Wii, with all the "best games": Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Wii dontevenknow, along with the DS, a portable game device that is great for the kiddies! It connects with the TV, you can use the tablet while the TV is in use, you can use it as a remote (bet $5 gonna be a big selling point with some people) and more. Sounds like something every consumer who doesn't care about games as much as us will want in their house.

I can visualize it. I can feel it. It's success is quite possible. Probable even.

I'm sure there will be a lot of Wii owners who catch on and feel the need to get the new Wii U so they can be up to date. Don't they show videos for the Wii U on the Wii?

I think first year Wii U is going to be slow. Your casual Wii player will see the price and pass on it initially, your experienced gamer will probably pass on it because the launch line-up is not strong and because of RRoD concerns. That leaves the hardest of the hardcore Nintendo fans and people who must have the shiny new tech right away.

Assuming it launches in November, that means year 2 will start just before the holiday season, and that will be the year Wii U will take off it at all. That's when they'll throw down some big guns and get big-name mulitplats at the same time as the other two.

i hurt my ankle today.....

Anyways i think the Wii u will do decently well. There isn't as much hype as there was for the wii so it won't do as well as the wii did

There are many many Wii users that have no idea about the upcoming WiiU (in fact none if the Wii users I know personally know about the existence of a sucessor) but they are already feeling their Wii quite dead, and they are actually moving to PS3/XBoX.

Personally I think a lot of it depends on Nintendo's success with its online networks. Online multiplayer is huge, and it's probably been the biggest trend in gaming this generation. Nintendo is more than a little late to the party, so it'll be interesting to see how they handle it. I found a pretty interesting article about this, in fact. Definitely worth checking out. http://press2reset.com/2012/07/02/analysis-can-nintendos-onli...

I doubt that happens a lot. All the Wii owners I know have no interest in the other consoles and when I introduced then to the Wii U concept they were excited.

I'm sure the Wii U will be successful but I feel as far as sales numbers go the Wii U, Xbox 720, and PS4 might be much closer than what we have seen in the past. Feel as if it will hinder Wii U sales some as people are not so wow'd by the motion controls now. The tablet may be their hook-line-sinker now but not sure the bulk of consumers will see it as a must have. Curious to see what Microsoft and Sony's next consoles are going to do. Feel the may be the most interesting console cycle yet.

Someone up there mentioned the iPad.

That is exactly what this thing is going to be compared to. it's going to be an "WiiPad" for the average consumer.

Given Google, Amazon and Microsoft have all failed to figure out how to get people to buy anything other than an iPad, I think it's sweet that people think Nintendo can.

Wouldnt say they failed. The Kindle Fire is wildly popular and we havent gotten to see Microsofts new Windows 8 tablet.

I think the Wii U will start out slow and then pick up the pace 1-2 years into its lifetime, like the 3DS. With this launch lineup, I can't see it flying off the shelves at launch. Of course, this depends on the price too, which still hasn't been revealed. I wonder when the next Nintendo Direct will be.
