@Haru17
When you put something in quotes doesn't automatically imply that the person you're talking to said it. It just means that the person who uses the quote isn't saying it. I don't think I'm an idiot for buying toys but some might. Whether or not you are one of those some people is irrelevant. Also I'm toying with you. You're like a cat trying to catch a laser pointer. Getting all worked up about me using quotes when in the other thread....

This isn't about whether amiibo are worth it for me or not; they're not, I have enough physical things already. I'm speaking on the ethics of these products.

This 3 minute demo thing is just a way to sell VC games.

That's exactly what annoys me about this! Everything about amiibo seems to just lead into buying another game or another amiibo. It's this obnoxious money sink that never ends. It all just feels so manipulative to me.

It is just marketing. Ignore the 3-minute demo thing, it doesn't really apply to us. Amiibo are collectables you can buy that give you bonuses in some games. You are not forced to buy Amiibo in order to play and the game isn't missing any meaningful content without an Amiibo (except maybe Mario Party)

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Certainly not!!! Nintendo games are timeless gems!!!

You can play them even after years and they will be a lot of fun - this cannot be said for most other games. Speaking of Skyrim, I dont think anyone will get back into after some years - I played morrowind back in the day and I am rather sure that the outdated graphics would turn me off nowadays.

@Endriu7777 Does that mean N64 games' graphics turn you off as well and if not, where's the difference?

Depends on the games!

Remember the original tomb raider on psone? I really liked that game! It was the first '3d world' that I ever explored! Amazing game (when I played it back in the day!) So was Mario 64!

Now which of those two games would you play today if you had the choice? I bought myself mario 64 for the ds - I like it!
Personally I cant see myself playing the old tomb raider game - I know there is an anniversary edition out there with improved graphics - wouldnt want to play that one either.

On the other hand I like golden eye for the n64, cant see myself playing it today

Splatoon looks different if it has a decent amount of content and weapons locked into Amiibo (That might be why the game itself is being offered so comparatively cheaply)

As for Amiibo: If you have enough money and space, then yes they can be fun to collect. But game-wise they do almost nothing substantial. And they keep releasing more and more of them!

I think they are very expensive and rather small. In my local shop they cost 16 Euro a piece. Skylanders cost 8, and those are bigger. Also, the supplies are so limited. And some are only available in certain shops. If you are out of luck you have to go to Ebay, and there the prices go through the roof.

No thank you, no Amiibo for me! Well, maybe only as a game pack-in (Splatoon, Yoshi). Otherwise no!

"I'm speaking on the ethics of these products"

I agree! With all these antics (micro-transactions, Amiibo) they flush their good name through the toilet. There's a difference between doing whats good for a company, or being totally blinded by money. It sadly seems the latter now.

Maybe someone should start a site (or petition) called Antiibo?!

Since when do you buy figurines by the kilo? If I have to pick between a small toy bear for $10 and an official Tingle Plush for $20? I'm going to get Tingle. I have a niece who steals my Bowser plush whenever she comes over and puts him in a pram. She also likes pointing at my Amiibos and naming them, apparently she's Peach, Grandad is Donkey Kong and I'm Megaman. I think the little bit extra is worth it for the sheer "branded" cuteness of scenarios like that. If it was a generic character it wouldn't be the same because I have zero attachment to generic spiked dude number 17.

Also when I look online I see some Skylanders that cost more than Amiibo and the Disney Infinity ones all cost more. The exceptions being the ones that are being heavily discounted. Amiibo are far more popular, supply wouldn't be an issue if people weren't queued up at store openings. I agree that scalpers are bull but are we seriously complaining that Nintendo is making a popular product here? Well I guess it makes a nice change from the usual "Nintendo are doomed" whine.

This is exactly why Nintendo should stop marketing them as video game-enabled and video game media should stop covering them. Everyone agrees that they don't do expletive for games!

I'll bite.

I'm spending $13 on a collectible statue. Then I spend $100s on games that I'll play and enjoy. Oh hey look, I get bonuses for having both. What a deal!

Then Nintendo/retailer has $213 that you don't. See how that worked out?

Also I love how apparently having a video game company sell Toys has people questioning their "ethics". As if somehow the games themselves aren't toys and them selling you things you can't pretend are not toys is somehow unethical. How dare a Toy company sell toys! They're on a slippery slope, next thing you know they'll be selling playing cards and plastic mechanical claws.

Toy: Something to play with. From Middle English toye “amorous play, piece of fun or entertainment"

Last I checked we "played" games. We don't "use" or "run" games. Also while we can be called "users" it's more often that when talking about us collectively we're called either "Gamers" or "Players". They're toys.

'Game' is a bad name for software-based entertainment. It's childish connotation is not appropriate to all, nor even most games.
