Grinding part is what makes MH3U is very fun. It is not much grinding if you're not trying to collect something though. I like to collect armor/weapons in sets.

Honestly fighting the same monster multiple times isn't as boring you would think. Especially in the more difficult quests (that has Unstable environments), like one quest you'd kill the monster with ease, fight him again and before you know it a Jho shows up to ruin everything for you.

Keep it PG-13-ish.
but the cool thing in MH3U is the grinding, I mean the way the monsters act, the unstable enviroment quests(like @Xiao_Pai said) and all the cool armors(it also helps that most weapon types play almost completely different from each other so as long as you change you equipment often it never gets dull)
just don't expect beat 'em up button mashing gameplay, if you don't pay attention to which buttons you're pressing at which time you'll see the felyne cart really often
goodbyes are a sad part of life but for every end there's a new beggining so one must never stop looking forward to the next dawn

If you don't want to grind, you'll be in for a bad time with Monster Hunter. Meanwhile Deus Ex can be beaten without killing anything. Might as well go with that.
I'm a big MH fan, but strangely enough I just started playing Deus Ex so I can give you some pros/cons for each (based on what I've played)
MH Pros:
-Online is usually good, and REALLY fun with friends (I have a German friend and a Japanese friend I voice chat with and they make my day )
-LOTS to do. Some fun, some meh, but if you're looking for your money's worth, look no further.
-Decent difficulty curve (carelessness will kill you, but it's not as hard as some people make it out to be, especially in the beginning) and easy to get help online if you don't stumble into some elitist's room.
Cons:
-Grinding. Sure this is what the series is, and most of the time it's fun...but there are far too many moments where you know what you want, will work towards it, and will be denied it for LITERALLY 10-20 hours at times.
-Online can be annoying if you get with the wrong people: I've been stalked, harassed, and annoyed by about every type of online loser. If you go online, make your own room and make the expectations clear. You'll make friends, you'll have fun. MH elitists are some of the most annoying gamers, period. And be careful, they're always trolling for a room because they can't even stand each other enough to band together (gotta love the kick and block functions though .
-Some people don't like the controls because they have a heavy feel to them (each movement needs to be very deliberate, no button mashing!)
-OMG the load times
-Which suck even worse because it's easy to die T_T
-Sometimes tries too hard to be "cool" IMO. Which is fine...but c'mon, he doesn't need a Batman voice.
Neutral:
-Short? I haven't finished yet so i can't confirm, but I don't think it's too long (did hear about a New Game+ though)
Whatever you choose you can probably get either for cheap if you know where to look. I live in the US and got Deus EX for $18 with free shipping on Newegg.
I'm going with Deus Ex, entirely biased admittedly because getting into Monster Hunter is for dedicated fans only.
And grinding is practically the point of Monster Hunter so...
While Deus Ex would be in my top 10 AAA games of the past generation to recommend and the Wii U version is apparently better and I need to get this version, as I've stated before.
Thinking about it, I'd probably put Deus Ex on the same level as Dark Souls for 2 of the best designed games of the past decade. Which is weird as I don't consider than among my favorite games or anything, but I know quality when I see it.
Deus Ex - about 40 hours of 2 playthorughs, good stealth and action, graphics are still pretty good, GamePad map and use for hacking in the game, off-TV
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - around 100 hours to complete single player mode, another 50 hours or so to complete online mode, another 100 hours to complete armor sets and weapons., another 100 just for fun Very good online, lots of content, minor GamePad features, off-TV
I think you'd be better off going with Monster Hunter, based on value, but you can't really go wrong here, IMO.
