Wii U consoles and games will no longer be stocked in UK supermarket chain ASDA’s 555 stores, according to the retailer. It will, however, continue to stock games online via a title-by-title basis.
CVG reports that Wal-Mart will also cease the sale of all Wii U console models, games and accessories in-store.
Guys, it also says Walmart will stop carrying the Wii U...I think we have a Virtual Boy 2.0 on our hands (unless it lasts long enough for games to come out...)

This isn't a good sign...
May I ask for your source? I would be surprised to see Walmart doing such a dumb business move.

Look at the top of the page...
NVM, it just says that it's a Walmart owned chain...biggggg difference
The gaming news sites are now covered with gifs about Wii-U failing.
Here's one I actually did laugh at on eurogamers article about this:
What truly makes me laugh about the gaming sitiation nowadays is that as passionate as gamers are, they go where the grass is greener. One day they sing praise at Sony, the other one it's at Microsoft, always looking for the sweeter deal. Just like third-parties, the gaming community in general goes where the wind blows.
When that's the case, the only way you have to make a new endeavor grow in this industry is to rely on your trusted fanbase. Nintendo fans, before being fans of Nintendo, are fans of Nintendo games: these are the early adopters, those who bought and sold the Wii U up until now in spite of the negativity.
Sony and Microsoft fans? I wanna see how that fan base will speak with its cash this holiday season. I think a lot of them in a year or two will be opening Wii U boxes at the dismay of their own fledging support.
And I'll be happy to teach them the Nintendo experience on Smash U.
that's really odd that Wal-Mart won't be carrying them either. i mean, i probably wouldn't have bought mine from there, but they're so mainstream that it's weird for them not not be carrying a current-gen console for whatever reason. ah well.

They'll probably restock once good games come out. Nintendo even said themselves that they're trying to wipe out more of the basic consoles.
I'm not worried. Wii U's have been sold out in my location for a while, even before all of this "OMG, lookie". I heard ASDA wasn't doing well either, and Walmart is failing bad in Mexico, so there are definitely other things going on that might be causing people to jump to conclusions on Nintendo's side.
They know they need to act soon. They aren't just gonna sit there and let this sort of thing happen for no reason.

It is called 'business'.
If something is not selling very well, they reduce the stock by dropping the price as low as they can feasibly go and wave goodbye to said stock which, in this case, is the Wii U.
Guys, guys. Remember the timeline we laid out back around January or so? The Wii U is going to go under sometime early next year, and Nintendo as a company will fold shortly thereafter. All Wii Us have been stealth updated to self implode early in the new year. This ASDA chain (never heard of it - I guess I'm on the wrong side of the Atlantic) is just safeguarding its store and customers from the inevitable.
One chain won't be selling their system? Hardly sad haha. A misfortune maybe, but I have a feeling ASDA is going to regret this.
I really doubt that as ASDA are a UK supermarket mostly food and drink. But do sell video games and most of the time are the cheapest place to go for your games.
