Topic: ASDA won’t stock Wii U consoles or games in-store anymore

Never heard of ASDA so it doesn't affect me. How many people does this actually affect?

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

100% of the people that planned on going to this specific store to buy this specific product and are negligible of all other avenues for purchasing said specific product.

THAT'S 100%

It's the EU Walmart I think. I have no clue what other stores they have there. Just go to those.

BTW, Does ASDA stand for American Social Distortion Association?

EDIT: I was just kidding. I googled it.

ASDA is incredibly convenient to type on a keyboard.

May I ask for your source? I would be surprised to see Walmart doing such a dumb business move.

It is called 'business'.

If something is not selling very well, they reduce the stock by dropping the price as low as they can feasibly go and wave goodbye to said stock which, in this case, is the Wii U.

... you learn something new everyday, hey?

lol Now I'm getting lessoned to ask for a source that I still haven't gotten. It is also called business to not hinder your relationship with a business partner which can potentially turn the market around in a few months. Will it then be business when they restock or could it have been an idea not a make a fuss out of it?

@DePapier I was referring to ASDA, seeing as I live in Great Britain.

... it is not just ASDA over here, many other stores seem to be 'saving space' for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Heck, the pre-order information for those respective consoles are bolder and more aggressive than the Wii U shelves, and they are nowhere near being available yet!

A bit disheartening to see though, considering the DS and Wii had an enormous amount of shelf space.

@Peek-a-boo My real issue with this case is: why make it public? For example, Nintendo and Amazon US have issues with one another, but you don't hear Amazon talking about their business practices. The PS4 was being advertised on Amazon.com on Wii U pages, Amazon didn't make noise on it, only media did.

The expected way to act would have been: "We have nothing to comment." Just like Nintendo saying they don't discuss their retailer practices. These are stuff that are normally secret.

However, Azda issues a statement that they are no longer selling not only the Wii U, but also the 3DS, the biggest console this time around in terms of sales. What business reason can be behind discontinuing both the worst-selling and the best-selling consoles when both, coincidentally, belong to Nintendo? Indeed, it doesn't make business sense.

One way or the other, competition is pulling strings.

I don't blame them honestly. Like I said, though, they all sold over here, too.

I expect that they'll restock when demand is there.

Here is how I believe it works. Normally, when you don't have stocks, consumers would come to your store to find out, be disappointed, and buy elsewhere: the blame would be on the store. But if you publically announce that you don't want anything to do with the actual product, the blame then turns towards the product itself.

I have a Wii U, I am writing this post and others from it. It is in my best interest that the blame be put on the store, not on the console I enjoy. They are the store, it is in their best interest that the blame be put on the console, and not on the store.

All in all, it's a matter of perception.

Really, a grocery store in the UK is not a big deal. Unless I'm ignorant, and they are the go to place for a general population's gaming needs over there. If Walmart or Best Buy here in the states says they will no longer sell Wii U's, then it's probably time to throw in the towel.

Well, @DePapier I think your right. The store publicizing the wiiU drop is telling. But I can't blame them for a business decision. Unfortunately, wiiU is in a drought.

Folk, these times are over, Pikmin 3 just launched in Europe and in the UK!! In less than a month it's Wonderful 101!! And that's not counting the odd third-party games, nor all the eShop and Wii U VC releases.

That used to make sense before and even then, with direct backwards compatibility and the Wii's neglected yet considerable catalogue, from where I stood as a day-one owner it was a joke — save for February-March when we were all expecting Rayman Legends to save the day like a first-party release...

While people write off the Wii U for being in a drought, the games actually come, gamers buzz it off on Miiverse and no one cares, and then in a few months people will be surprised to see the Wii U on its feet and they'll call it magic.

@DePapier I was trying to agree but until pikmin3 starts selling, wiiU is in a drought. I mean pikmin3 isn't really setting records. It came in second to Minecraft and narrowly beat out a 6 week old Last of Us. So let's not act like wiiU is out of a drought. It can still go either way

Minecraft is still big. It sells like crazy. And don't underestimate The Last of Us - the press and reviews for that game are so amazingly awesome that it will probably continue to sell well into the holiday season, it's just that type of game. So for Pikmin 3 to come in right behind Minecraft in the UK is nothing to scoff at, but even better is the fact that a great number of the top sellers are Nintendo titles or games only on Nintendo.

But back to the topic - they won't restock until they see demand. And when they see demand, we'll have a whole new headline to sensationalize. Back and forth, back and forth. Reminds me of EA lol
