I like hearing the OoT redeads scream, but only in Castle Town.

Yet the original back on the PSOne had it's moments and I was at that age(around 12) where I was more effected. Silent Hill 1 was much creepier though of course.

Anyways, creepiest Parts? Hmmmmm.....

That's very similar to a scene in Shattered Memories - sort of. I've never played the original but, apparently, the story is about witches or something?

I tried to find the scene in F.E.A.R. where you fall into a pool of blood, but I could not find it.
For now, I'll just go with this one:

Why only in Castle Town? Is it because they don't actually paralyse you there? In any case, I thought of another creepy part from a game.

In Majora's Mask, when I first reached the music box house in Ikana Canyon I was repeatedly creeped-out; first by the group of Gibdos slowly shambling around the building; then by the horribly-mutated half-Gibdo-half-Terminan inside the house; then by the Terminan herself himself after I freed her him with the Song of Healing! I really thought that the mutant was a woman before I drew my sword and little Pamela said "Stop! Don't hurt my dad!" Freaky!

Yeah, it's because they don't paralyze you there. It adds to the ambience. When you're paralyzed, it's more like an "Aw, crap." moment.

That tub scene among others in Eternal Darkness does deserve a nod as jump worthy it was 'the' frightworthy game of that generation of systems. I don't scare easy, a game nor movie can do it, but the closest in gaming to ever give me the willies and not by cheap method but truly messed up mix of sound, environment, scenery on the whole is much of anywhere in Dead Space as that game does horror right, just as how Japanese horror movie makers do it so well and their US counterparts are kind of weak. Dead Space doesn't give you a hint, it's just warped as you go like a Japanese horror movie. Resident Evil is the fake fear, hate it earned the right to be called survival horror, it's more like survival of lack of ammo, camera control, and awful control. RE is like a stupid Jason or Freddie movie where things darken, some trumped up stupid music starts and or cuts out, things look tense, and then bam so-called scary stuff. Back in the day Silent Hill did it better and before that time the older non-console Alone in the Dark games were fairly messed up as was kind of that weird one on PC Fantasmagoria.

Um, dude, if it makes you jump and SCARES you then it's obviously scary. And isn't the whole explanation you gave EXACTLY what survival horror is about? Scary music, tense feeling, dark setting, creepy environment, lack of ammo, etc. I will admit I don't find the games scary, but a lot of people do, and they are still defined as survival horror. Infact, look up survival horror. It pretty much defines Resident Evil.

The River Twygz was scary. All the hands in the river freaked me out.

The first time I encountered a Regenerator scared the bawlz off me.

In any game, horror or not, when an enemy just pops out of freaking NO WHERE.

The witches in Left 4 Dead are very creepy.

The chainsaw guys in RE4 are scary. Especially when the pop out of no where right next to you, and you don't have much ammo.

There's been more, but it's late an I'm lazy.

The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.
