The newly Platinum-plated Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance features a story different from the one planned for the old Metal Gear Solid: Rising. While the game was originally intended to take place between Metal Gear Solids 2 and 4, the setting has now been transfarred to a time years after MGS4. This was done in order to let Platinum "show off what they can bring to the series." Without creating a time paradox and accidentally undoing the events of MGS4, we suppose.
Raiden joins up with private military companies for various jobs including "VIP protection, military training and other duties" as an unspecified country rebuilds from a civil war. "Little does he know that the stage is set for a clash with an enigmatic force of countless cyborgs."
This information comes via the official site, which is also the source for the new screens in our gallery. The site provides a detailed listing of staff for the title, including Platinum's Atsushi Inaba (the guy on stage with Kojima) as producer alongside Konami's Yuji Korekado. It could stand to be more detailed, as there's no game director listed.
Konami still has some revealing to do: the site claims that a video interview titled "The Truth Behind RISING" will explain the genesis of the Platinum/Kojipro collaboration, on December 13.
By the way, the site lists only PS3 and Xbox 360 releases — no PC.
I hate this. I like Raiden but all of the interesting characters like Snake, Ocelot, Big Boss, are dead. There's nothing to build on after MGS4 so why are they trying to? And Platinum games working on a Metal Gear title? wtf.
This raises so many questions. Are they going to continue Rising and ditch Solid? Was that Vamp in the trailer? At the end of MGS4 Raiden had an artificial body? How is the storyline going to be affected overall?

Something awesome! I honestly could not stop laughing the entire time I watched that trailer. Yes, the story will probably threadbare and/or completely bogus, but at least the gameplay and cutscenes should be fun this time around.
I lost interest in the series well after Peace Walker was released. To me, the series is done and this is just a side story. It seems now every video game company is radically changing their major franchises (DMC, Castlevania, XCOM)
FF6: Release year- 1994 Kefka's birthday - November 9th So.... my life is practically mirroring Kefka? Cool.
Talk about butchering a series into little bits. That sentence seemed ironically appropriate...
Even I realize that's NOT Metal Gear and I haven't even played any game in the series. Either that or the trailer was specifically made to appeal to what they think American video game players would like.
EDIT: Reflecting on this comment, I didn't quite make my thought clear; this game doesn't appear to have the tone of a Metal Gear game. To me, Metal Gear is a realistic war drama only with giant robots. From what I can tell, this game looks like a really stupid big-budget action game that knows the story is manned by people that don't care.

SPOILERS SPOILERS Well, in case you didn't pay attention to the MGS4's story line, Solid Snake had less than a year to live, his genes were altered, so that he had a short life span, just in case an enemy country were to capture Snake. So, I highly doubt that they would continue the series with Solid Snake as the Main Hero. Secondly, this game is a prequel to MGS4, detailing the story on how Raiden became a Cyber Ninja. And also, Raiden did have a the cyber suit in MGS4.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT? Oh, well it looks like I need to read more recent information about this game.
@Squiggle Hideo Kojima didn't want to go beyond MGS4 because MGS4 was meant to end the storyline. Hell, he didn't even want to make MGS4... D:
Rising is going to be the Other M of Metal Gear: It looks cool and sweet, and has potential in a new direction but in the end its going to be terrible and everyone is to going die. On the inside.

Who said MGS5 was going to be a sequel to 4 or Metal Gear May Cry? MGS3 was a never expecting prequel to, well, the entire franchise. We'll have to wait and see.

He didn't even plan on making any games past MGS1 when he made it. Was so well received that he ended up making MGS2, which was meant to be the end of the series. All the unanswered questions were meant to be left as such. Fans ate that game up too, so he ended up making MGS3. Same thing with MGS4, except the reason he made it is something to do with death threats I hear...
He never wanted to resolve any plot from the previous games, so MGS3 and 4 were forced. Hence all the retcons and crazy explanations for things. So basically I love MGS3 but I... What am I talking about again... need to spend less time on thesnakesoup.org, that's what u__u
