So it went from Solid Snake using stealth and normal weapons (plus a swaggy cardboard box) to a cyborg ninja who kills his enemies with flashy, bloody sword moves and takes body parts as upgrades? o_O

I lost interest in the series well after Peace Walker was released.
Peace Walker was the latest original Metal Gear Solid release. >.> I dont know what your even trying to say.
Hideo Kojima: Y u no make stealth metal gear game
That's the point. To me, the series was done after that. I had no more unanswered questions and the series was complete. I don't need a new game that doesn't have Snake, or the Patriots, or Big Boss, and is essentially going to be just a side game to the series. Sorry if I wasn't clear
FF6: Release year- 1994 Kefka's birthday - November 9th So.... my life is practically mirroring Kefka? Cool.

It's not a part of the "Solid" series, and Snake isn't in it. They're exploring different types of gameplay in the Metal Gear Solid universe. There's this company called Nintendo and they've got this mascot named Mario, and he's known for games like that.

Comparing Mario to Metal Gear is like comparing nothing to your terrible reference.
I'm not comparing Mario to Metal Gear, silly. I'm saying it's not some crazy new thing for a developer to explore new gameplay types within an existing universe. Mario started out as a platformer, but the Mushroom Kingdom has since seen a plethora of different genres (racing, golf, soccer, RPGs, etc.) , sometimes with different protagonists (Luigi, Peach, Wario). We still have standard Mario platformers, but now we have some side projects as well. That's what's happening with Metal Gear. They're saying, "hey, maybe we can have more than just stealth and raspy dudes with eye-patches in this world we've created."

More like "Hey lets give Platinum Games a try with our AAA franchise! They can make it into a hardcore hack 'n slash game and have as little Metal Gear resemblance as possible." Mario works for other genres because he's Mario. Metal Gear is no Mario.
That's like taking Zelda and making it into a hack 'n slash. Ditch the puzzles, the exploration, the variety, and lets make a linear, repetitive, button mashing adventure!
Before I forget, Metal Gear was once a card based game like YuGiOh. It was called Metal Gear Acid. Remember how well that did?
I thought you wanted the MGS series to be put to rest VJ? This game is simply using the MG name in the MG universe, what's it matter if it's different? Isn't that what you want? Or are you just an unpleasable fan
Either way, no one's forcing you to buy it if you don't want to. I know I am, because it looks effing awesome.
Viewtiful_Joe, it seems like your argument seems to be "Metal Gear is no Mario." Which isn't really an argument at all. And your Zelda comparison doesn't make a lot of sense, either: Rising has a different protagonist, does not retain the "Solid" label that associates the 3D games with stealth, and isn't trying to pose as something it's not. Yes, Acid sucked, but so did Mario's CDi games. He's been in the hands of different developers over the years and he's done just fine. When Link's Crossbow Training came out, there wasn't a huge outcry because there wasn't any dungeons or puzzles. We just said, "Oh. This is just a rail shooter in the Zelda universe. Neat." Metal Gear Solid isn't going away. This is just a fun little side-project. Why is that so hard to grasp?
For the record, I don't like Raiden. I think he only worked in MGS2 because he gave the player a means to see Snake from a new perspective. By observing Snake rather than playing as him, Snake seemed more legendary, and in a number of scenes, more human. Raiden himself is just a whiny jerk, and I'm insulted that they thought turning him into a badass cyborg ninja would make me forget that, hey, there isn't any depth to his character at all.
That being said, I have high hopes for Rising. I think it looks like a cool experiment, and Platinum obviously has a good track record with this sort of game.

You bringing up Mario in the first place didn't make a lot of sense either...
Yes, Acid sucked, but so did Mario's CDi games.
Your bringing that Italian dude up again. He has nothing to do with this as your not seeing my point. And that point is: Just because one franchise can do every genre doesn't mean other franchises can do any.
He's been in the hands of different developers over the years and he's done just fine.
Under his supervision, Portable Ops did a little better than average. Especially when compared to it's console brethren.
When Link's Crossbow Training came out
Link's Crossbow Training was bundled with the Wii Zapper. People got a free game with a $20 attachment. This is going to be a $60 new Metal Gear game. There is a huge difference your not getting.
Anyway, let me just get this off my chest... I dislike Hack n Slash games. It's a personal preference and I just find it ridiculous that Metal gear is going that way. Hopefully this game does good but at the same time I'm hoping for no sequels...

last i checked it wasn't 'your' Metal Gear to do (or not do) anything with. If you feel it was perfectly wrapped up and ended already, don't buy it. problem solved? :3

So. Final Fantasy is a different game each time. It also has a lot of offshoot games - like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. That game plays nothing like Final Fantasy XIII. Or how about how FFXI is a MMO?
How is this any different? Oh right, it's not. It's a different game built into the Metal Gear universe. Given that Platinum Games makes really good games, you'd think fans would be happy.
But no. They get upset because it's "different." Then later on they complain because there's "no creativity in the games industry." I would hate to be a games developer. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
If you guys can't accept that the reason this game has "Metal Gear" on the box is because of the marketing pull behind the Metal Gear name, then that's your problem. I just hope enough people realise that it's a good looking game to give it a chance.
Trust me I'll play this game. It's not going to be bad but it's different and I don't like that. Really it's all my personal opinion but I can see a lot of hate growing towards this game. I just hope MGS5 is a little more... satisfying.
@TBD I never said I didn't want the Metal Gear series to go on after 4. I never said. Rather I have been leaning towards the point that I dont want it to go about like this...
@Yellow What you just said didn't make any sense as I've either already explained it, or it can be related to Other M and how bad that game did.
@Yellow What you just said didn't make any sense as I've either already explained it, or it can be related to Other M and how bad that game did.
So... you're going to use one game as proof that a publisher's franchises should never be farmed out to a third party?
Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, and a bunch of other examples say hello.
I've either already explained it,
Not satisfactorily, you haven't. Once again: how is it a bad thing when a really good developer is given a game and the freedom to do something different with it?
Do you doubt that Platinum Games can make a good game?
Like I've already said not every franchise can do every genre. Metal Gear, in any form other than a stealth game, will make me very skeptical. I have no faith in this game but I hope the best outcome is possible.
Platinum Games isn't my favorite developer and from their track record they won't be doing a better job than Hideo Kojima by any means. And its not their fault their at such a disadvantage.

Well, considering how many cutscenes were in Vanquish, I can see why.
Oh wait, except Vanquish's cutscenes were the most boring action movie crap ever (they basically took anything awesome and made it boring), so this just seems to be an incredibly bad idea for a METAL GEAR GAME. I'm not even a huge fan of the series and I'm angry at how stupid that sounds.
