Well the latest news now on the next Xbox is that it will do away with disc drive and instead use a card format for games like an SD card or a 3DS game and that its due out in 2013.
one is the xbox 720 for gamers with bluray and all that jazz. The other one isn't disc based and is more for xbox media apps (seasme street kinect/netflix/ctoday) and uses kinect and can only play XBLA games.
WAT!

MS's "response": “Xbox 360 has found new ways to extend its lifecycle like introducing the world to controller-free experiences with Kinect and re-inventing the console with a new dashboard and new entertainment content partnerships. We are always thinking about what is next for our platform and how to continue to defy the lifecycle convention. Beyond that we do not comment on rumors or speculation.”
@shingi_70 I think you may be right, if MS does decide to go that route. It would be the most logical way to test out the consumer appeal for a disc-less system vs a more capable system, not unlike how they originally marketed the "Arcade " bundle of the 360.
I guess we don't know sometime soon. It is reported that The Next XBox (code name Durango) isn't going to be shown at E3. I guess they are pretty devoted to put the XBox to a decade.
Xbox 720 will be better than Wii U. Not better games, but better console. I know many of you will disagree with me, but the 720 will come out more than a year after the U, which gave Microsoft plenty of time to see what the U's doing, and perfect it, while adding some more magic. The U may have some hardware updates, but it won't be anything drastic. The 720 WILL be better than the U. Case closed.
Wii U has an extra year that 720 doesnt. The 720 console will be a powerful 360. They dont have anything much to add to t for the huge price tag theyre putting on it. They are gonna waste the extra year with software and hardware development. There wont even be a disc drive on it. They are gonna try to replicate the wii u but they are going to fail. So what the 720 has a touchscreen? I like Microsoft, but that technology will be almost old by the time they get around to it. microsoft needs a NEW console, now an upgraded U.

You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

lol at touch screen technology being old in less than a year. and dude if you want to be taken seriously don't spout rumors as if they're fact you look foolish.
because
-how do you know it will not have a disc drive. -A powerful 360. shows you don't follow microsofts roadmaps or have a tangible understanding on where they are going. -so wouldn't the wii u be a more powerful 360 as well?

Thanks for pointing out the obvious. I think we all sort of knew this?

I've been messing around with Windows 8 for awhile now and it's pretty flippin' awesome. The fact that you can access and download your XBLA games to your PC is really enticing. It's almost as if Microsoft is looking to pull back into the PC market fully, but it's obvious that isn't the case.
Rumors a few months back were that the new Xbox would have two release versions: One casual box with Kinect that's got a small hard drive and cheap to purchase, and a second 'hardcore' box that offers a more centralized gaming experience that caters to their majority. But, now we hear of a touchscreen device in the works and next it'll be a big box in the shape of an X, that you can climb inside for a full interactive 3D experience that will literally explode your brain with its full body immersion innovations. And I'm sure that even that will somehow copy the Wii U. Personally, I'd like to think that'd it copy the NES though, because I climbed into my NES when I was a child and fell down a pipe and well... I'm actually not too sure if I ever got out of it.
Wait until E3 and we'll see for ourselves what the truths behind all these constantly ever changing rumours are.
