Yeah, only took them three or so years after the DS, iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad to figure out people like it.

Fixed.

Will you stop fixing my posts? You're making it look like I'm making dumb points.

The iPad is a very different touch screen experience to what you've listed above, and it's the iPad that Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft are planning on copying this time around.

You make it seem like the iPad is the only device that got touchscreen gaming right. The DS and iPhone / iPod Touch did it years before that. Also, I know resistive touchscreens used with a stylus aren't the same as what the iPad and iPhone use, but the end result is the same. They are all touchscreens, they all had some role to play in making this style of gaming popular. The iPad screen is just bigger than all those other devices.

Also, the Wii U has a resistive screen. It's the same tech that the DS and 3DS use.

Like theblackdragon said, it doesn't matter who is copying who. The point is, we are all going to be using some sort of touchscreen device to play are games. Whether it's a handheld, tablet, smartphone, game controller, or whatever. It seems like this is the future, and not motion controls.

Maybe motion controls were just a gimmicky fad. Yes, Nintendo and Sony are still implementing motion controls in their touchscreen devices, but it's a very minor feature compared to what the Wii did.

Here we go again.

COMPLETELY MISSING THE POINT.

The iPad's big screen is EXACTLY why it's a different user experience to the other devices. It is THAT USER EXPERIENCE that Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft will be looking to emulate.

The fact it's a touch screen, and the technology behind the hardware is COMPLETELY IRRELEVENT. It's not the touch screen people are copying. It's the experience.

Might, might, might. Enough threads about mere speculation. When there's proof, we'll talk.

The touchscreen IS the experience. No matter what size it is, it's still a touchscreen. It could be 3.5 inches wide, or 15 inches wide, it's still a touchscreen. Nintendo and Apple made touchscreen devices popular, so now Microsoft might be following the trend. Anyways, none of this is important, so why are we arguing about it?

The point is, they are all touchscreen devices.

And the tech used is relevant. Remember how many people were whining because the Wii U controller doesn't use a capacitive multitouch screen?

No it isn't. I like playing games on the iPad. I hate playing games - the exact same game - on iPhone. Why? A DIFFERENT USER EXPERIENCE.

If you can't comprehend how the size of a device can affect your experience of it, well, go watch a 4-inch TV and see whether you think it's the same as watching a 40-inch TV.

And the tech used is relevant. Remember how many people were whining because the Wii U controller doesn't use a capacitive multitouch screen?

Right. That's it. The next time you bring an entirely unrelated topic into a conversation, the only response I'm going to dignify to you is a random copy/ paste from Wikipedia.

Ok I see your point there. I hate playing games on an iPod Touch too, cause my fingers get in the way of the action.

So why aren't more tablet devices as popular as the iPad? Android smartphones are popular, so why can't they have the same success with their tablets?

Wait what? The topic is about touchscreen devices. We are talking about touchscreen devices. The Wii U uses a touchscreen controller, which uses resistive tech instead of the industry standard capacitive tech. And no one knows what tech the Xbox 720 controller will use.

How is any of that irrelevant?

I'm still whining.

and the touch screen isn't the user experience. If that were the case windows tablets and stuff like the newton would have been a success. Apple got it right .

I still question whether or not this is a good idea. I suppose if they come up with real uses for it, but I just can't think of anything outside of some silly useless gimmicks. Granted, people used to doubt the DS, too, and said it would never amount to anything outside of useless gimmicks. In fact, I still say that. But there are plenty of people now who say the Dual-screened gimmick machine actually revolutionized the industry, and looking at the sales and all the copy-cats out there, I can't blame them for thinking that way. So perhaps these tablet controllers will amount to something someday. I suppose one can only hope.

With that said, I'm skipping the next generation regardless, so I guess it really doesn't matter to me either way.

Most likely the rumor is confused with using Windows 8 tablets as you would the wii u controller. See my eariler posts describing it,. Another way that was shown was one person playing on kinect playing a game dodging paint while the person on the phone/tablet would be throwing the paint.

Personally, I think tablets are kind of stupid, but that's just a personal opinion and isn't really related to the topic.

On the other hand, I do like the idea of the touchscreen controllers.
I doubt they'll be revolutionary, and could potentially be a bit gimmicky depending on how they're implemented.
I think their biggest potential is to just hold some of the menus and HUD and everything.
It won't be as effective at that as the DS/3DS, as you'll actually have to look down at the screen rather than it just being directly under the screen you're playing on, but it's still a handy thing to have.

Good point. Maybe Microsoft is going to make the Windows 8 tablet the primary controller, and the next Xbox will simply be a small box connected to the TV that your PC streams to.

Android didn't have the app support that ios have. That and Android is just now getting strict UI guidelines on how to make third party apps like Ios, Windows Phone, and web os.

Web OS? People still use that? LOL

But that still doesn't explain how the iPad is more popular than Android tablets. It's like the iPad has no competition, when there are dozens of Android tablets sitting on store shelves. In the smartphone market, Android is just as popular as iPhone.

Android tablets didn't hit a year into the Ipad launch. Apple had the hype and the wares.

but it came down to the apps on android not being tablet optimized and clashing with the design of the UI. google is trying to rectify it with ics slowly.

And Webos is arguably the best mobile os around.

If it is the case that the next Xbox utilises a lot of compatibility with the Windows 8 tablets, then I'm not too fond of that idea.
Same goes with using the Vita as a tablet controller if Sony went down that path.

It's completely fine if the system itself comes with a tablet controller, and then the Windows 8 tablet can be used as an extra controller for those who want it, but personally I really wouldn't like having to buy a Windows 8 tablet as well as the next Xbox to be able to get the most out of it (especially if the next Xbox is going to be really expensive as it is).

I'm sure they would have though about all that and there must be a lot more to it, but if it was like that then I don't see it going down too well for them.
I've already got my mind up on a Wii U anyway, and I can't afford more than one system per generation of consoles so I'm pretty sure I won't be getting it anyway.
Just thought I'd share what I think.
