New Vegas I think kinda felt more like the first two Fallouts. It makes sense that they were made by the same guys as the first. (Obsidian = Old Black Isle Devs) It had more humor and quirky characters/dialogue like the originals. Fallout 3 was great but did feel a bit more bland. NV had much more color to it both in setting and characters. I do think Fallout 3 while different in tone was still really good and was great for what it was. Still Fallout 4 looks set to be better than both. With Bethesda's dev team using an already more colorful/interesting setting I really can't wait.
I do admit Fallout 3 is more bleak & depressing the old Fallout games were a bit different. Yes the tone was kind of oppressive but it was more fun and filled with dark humor. Whereas 3 barely had any humor. So Vegas really felt like more of a continuation to me.
That's the thing, Fallout 3 tried to set a different tone from the past iterations and be more serious. This meant that the fanbase, of course, would be split. People who could reserve their judgement and accept new things were fine with it, while people who clung on to the originals didn't find it all that. I prefer Fallout 3 for TRYING something new with the whole way it handled itself rather than continuing a quirky morbid-humor aspect. It felt more immersive, and in a game series that called itself a post apocalyptic simulator, quirky humor just doesn't help immersion.
I watched the Fallout 4 trailer and....my eyesight must be going from too much Splatoon. I just didn't see where the nextgen-ness was.
That's because it's using Skyrim's engine. You need to realize that Bethesda games take a long time to develop and usually aren't up to par with all of the "next gen" titles upon release because of this. I mean, look at Fallout 3 and New Vegas or even Skyrim. If you want amazing next gen graphics, mods are your friend.
Playing Fallout 3 only recently, I noticed the map was more tighter with more explorable buildings and there was even two mini unmarked quests involving you looking for loot and you needing to find notes and keys around different areas to continue. Tbh, I loved both of the games equally both had their faults and their highlights.

they have more than enough in their hands with Divinity Original Sin and Pillars of Eternity
I remember reading somewhere that the two teams (Obsidian and Bethesda Softworks) will both handle the different "sides" of America with Obsidian handling the east coast and BethSoft handling the west. I can't seem to find where I read it though.
Hopefully Fallout 4 will have all the improvements of New Vegas.

Now all depends on XCX release date. If it's November, I bet I won't be the only one ignoring it for months because of Fallout 4. September would be great for me and Nintendo too.
Im a little concerned about Fallout 4 after watching the godlike presentation again... In the videos:
No skill or trait tab, only SPECIAL and Perks. Also note that at no point during the character creation or the pip-boy SPECIALS does it mention that a stat increases a specific skill, it's just very vague about "Increases chances with barters" or whatever.
And during weapon customization It says that the gun required Rank 1 science, not a level of science but rank 1 science which heavily implies it's just going to be a perk you pick.
Skill and trait system seems to be genuinely gone in FO4.
Hopefully its not that and theres indeed a good RPG system :/
Is it possible to play through the entire series before this comes out?
I don't know about F1 and F2, but I'm playing again F3 right now: it's 70+ hours and I still have to play two of the dlcs and half of the main story. At Very Hard is a different game from Normal: now I use more weapons and abilities than I did on my first playthrough, I spend more time searching for loot and I basically have to plan most of the combats if I don't wanna be killed in seconds. I wonder if you'd better rush through all the episodes or focus just on one of it...
Just pre-ordered F4. My Gamestop didn't have the LE on hand yet........I'll be calling all day just to get the info on it. Now if I have to pay in full today, there might be problems...(next paycheck doesn't hit until Friday...Smash and F4 killed any amount of monies that I had)

I've no idea how I'm getting the Pipboy edition. I don't have a job in this backwater of a town I live in and all the money I do have is been put towards a New 3ds to replace my damaged normal one of 2 years. Ah well I'll cope....Did you download Fallout Shelter?
