I don't understand why Bethesda didn't sacrifice some of the visual fidelity of the console versions to get a stable framerate. 720p is less of a blow to my enjoyment of a game than huge framerate drops.
@Ralizah: I think the PS4 will be okay after a patch or twelve, just like how The Witcher 3 is 1080p and almost always 30fps nowadays, but the Xbox One may have a tougher time of it.
I'm surprised this game is getting high scores considering the dialogue in some of the video reviews I watched are not only very limited, but is much, much worse than the excellent writing in New Vegas. There's also the usual game-breaking bugs and memory leakage issues whereby the performance of the game gets worse as it goes on, just like the PS3 version of Fallout 3.
Also, even the visuals, after playing Metal Gear Solid V and The Witcher 3, are pretty rough too.
One thing that Fallout 4 does very well is atmosphere:
Fallout 4 graphic wise is a disappointment when you factor in Fallout 3 was released 7 years ago, & the reason for this is Fallout 4 was going to release on all platforms (PC,PS4,PS3,XboxOne & Xbox360). Fallout 4 graphics is evidence of this & for some reason became a current gen exclusive including PC, more then likely Bethesda where having trouble with the last gen versions so scrapped them. This would also explain the technical issues which will be fixed in a patch or two, you don't spend 7 years on three platforms & still release in a unfinished state. I am not the only one who believes this http://gamingbolt.com/fallout-4-ps4-vs-xbox-one-vs-pc-face-of...
I not saying Fallout 4 looks bad just pointing out Bethesda's missed opportunity.
Doesn't help that they're using a slightly altered version of the same engine they used for Morrowind. Gamebryo wasn't that great of an engine anyways.
It isn't a slightly different version of Gamebyro. They made and engine that was similar but better as it had more of a focus on randomized quest generation.
Are you guys joking me? Fallout 4 looks WAAAAAY better than MGS V. Graphics aren't about looking at texture quality like a pessimistic pedantic peasant. Fallout 4 has way more diverse areas, enemies, and just... everything than MGS V, which is comparably sparse.
The Witcher 3 gives it a run for its money, but I found it impossible to look at anything in the Witcher 3 on PS4. It wasn't designed to be a console game, so all of the fonts & perspectives were too small to look right.
Fallout 4 is out tonight. Apparently it has an unstable framerate on both XB1 and PS4, with the XB1 version dipping to 0 fps. Yes, ZERO.
Fallout 4 (PS4) has been stable for me when I'm not running through the city quickly or running through areas where I have a vantage of the city. Basically, it's loading new areas continually in quick succession that makes it jittery.
Yeah, Metal Gear Solid V is not only photorealistic in places - the sand dunes and rocky terrain in particular, especially at certain times of the day - but is able to sustain an almost rock solid 60fps too.
Fallout 4 is targeting 30fps and doesn't even reach it half the time, even when 'nothing' is going on on screen! Not to mention the numerous bugs and glitches as well, which is usually part and parcel of every Bethesda game.
Still, they are two totally different games and other than being open world, there is not much else to compare between the two.

I've heard this refrain far too often for it to not have any lyrics. What are you even talking about? Slight texture glitches don't deserve to be made mountains of.
The frame-rate reaches ZERO at one point on the Xbox One.
Fallout 4 is a good game, there's no doubt about it, but if you think it is bug/glitch free or has no performance issues, you must be a very, very tolerant person indeed!
I think Xbox One players will appreciate the concessions Bethesda made so that they could have a truly cinematic experience of the game on their platform of choice.
Fallout 4 has crashed less often (once after a death) than Far Cry 4, Witcher 3, and Batman Arkham Asylum so far. I don't see how Bethesda game 'buggyness' is anything more than hype—a distortion in the zeitgeist.

Edit: Had a couple of Gunners fall to their death last night. They were up on a highway, I had just killed their friend and was standing close to a wall. They could still see me, but they decided to walk off the highway, smack bang right onto the lift. I'm guessing they were meant to call the lift first and then get on...didn't quite work. I reloaded to see if they would do it again, and sure enough they were street pizza. I think the issue was the wall, because when I walked under the highway, they were able to shoot me through the holes.
Giant Bomb’s Jeff Gerstman points out that the game is “occasionally kind of broken, from performance issues specific to the console versions to scripting glitches that might just prevent you from progressing.
The most prevalent tend to be scenery-related mishaps — characters falling through floors, enemies getting stuck on a pile of rocks, walls disappearing or textures popping out of existence.
There are also scripting errors that delay quests from being completed, occasional crashes and other odd moments that hindered the overall experience.
Fallout 4's been out for barely a day, yet we're already seeing reports of some pretty horrendous bugs. Over at The Verge, Chris Plant just wrote a particularly heartbreaking piece about getting stuck in an elevator after ten hours of play, only to have this bug haunt previous save files.
At this point, you’re probably aware of Bethesda’s history with shipping buggy open-world games by now. If you were hoping that somehow a generational leap would magically buck that trend, prepare to be disappointed.
Nearly every classic glitch is accounted for, including occasional save data issues, repeated dialogue, frameskipping, severe frame-rate drops, pop-in, falling through the floor, and so on.
The broad sweep of the game is as absorbing as ever but, like the cockroaches that survive a nuclear blast, Bethesda’s bugs have also endured the shift to new-generation console hardware.
It’s impossible to miss the glitches, bugs and downright broken bits in Fallout 4, and that can’t help but dim its shine.
A distortion in the zeitgeist indeed, Haru17.
Try to back up your 'claims' next time rather than ignoring the factual information being presented before you, okay?
Fallout 4 is a good game, but it is also buggy, glitchy and has a very inconsistent performance to content yourself with too!
