Apparently you can upgrade VC games for a small fee, so how can upgrading VC games from the Wii U/3DS be possible if the Switch ain't backward compatible with them both unless.............online account system??
There could be a migration system like with the Wii -> Wii U. But that could only work with the VC games and not other purchases. If the Pokemon Switch game is true, then I believe that there will be an account system, that way Pokebank can be used between systems.
@TheLZdragon My point is that I hope people don't take it to be a promise. Nintendo could certainly be working on Gamecube VC for the Switch but who knows if it will fall through?
I guess the same could be said for any pre-reveal info though.
I guess the same could be said for any pre-reveal info though.
And yet it is still good advice. That's why "pre-reveal" info was rarely regarded as genuine news before both news outlets and a certain percentage of consumers became utterly desperate for any scrap of info they could find on upcoming games and consoles...

Nintendo already has an account system with 3DS and Wii U that can track purchases. Just sign in on your switch and it should be able to see all the digital purchases you have made.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Problem is some fans do take things as "promises", even baseless rumors. But heck, pleasing anyone is such a task these days.
I'd love to see it. Heck, I'd argue releasing Melee with some sort of Gamecube controller would be brilliant on its own.

It'd be a waste if they didn't. Uploadable screenshots would be great, too, if only so I could find GCN samples that are genuinely representative of the actual game, and not an upressed Dolphin snapshot.
Personally I'm fine with an upgrade fee for VC games you've already brought on the Wii U/3DS. Especially if those upgrades give you the full gold coin rewards on My Nintendo as they do currently. Because it works out that rewards you can get do cover the upgrade fee. If you can use them before they expire. It's not ideal but it's not bad.
As long as it's not like it is between the Wii U and 3DS. There's basically zero recognition of purchases between the two. You get a NES/SNES game on the 3DS and you pay the same price whether you have it on the Wii U or not. Which is ridiculous. It should have a huge discount if you already own a copy at the very least.
Anyways, none of this applies to the GC VC. Nobody has brought these games digitally. The closest you can get to having brought those games digitally is if you brought another platform version. I don't expect a discount on the original Metroid Prime because I got the Wii U VC version of the Metroid Prime Trilogy. But I do expect to get the version of the Metroid Prime Trilogy I have on the Wii U for a <$5AU upgrade fee. Both would be fantastic, neither would be infuriating
My main worry with it is,it'll get a bunch of the expected games at the start then it'll fade away with only the odd random release every few months. They should just dump all the NES/SNES/64 they've already released on there and concentrate on only Gamecube,GBA and hopefully Sega consoles and Neo Geo for the weekly downloads. It'll be depressing if it goes back to the old "What will you be downloading this week?' "Megaman - 45%" and NA users complaining about not having SMB 3 yet.
@OorWullie We all know they're gonna drip feed the same games over again. Let's just pray they have more than 1 a week, no break weeks, regional coordination and don't spend so long on bad obscure games (good obscure games on the other hand are more than welcome).
... on a handheld device. I'm playing now and man, I love me some GameCube.
@OorWullie
Wii U didn't even launch with a Virtual Console service, and neither did 3DS. Despite their predecessor (Wii) setting the bar back in the mid 2000's.
So the fact Switch will have the VC service in place day one is a good sign. The fact we'll be seeing not one, not two but three VC games day one is an even better sign. The fact those 3 will be GameCube games? Well shoot, if that's not a sign that Nintendo knows what the fans want and intends to deliver... then I don't know what is...

@IceClimbers@JaxonH I think a good system would be if they were to release 1 game from each console on a fortnightly basis. For example
1st week of the month have one game from each
NES
SNES
GBA
N64
Gamecube
then the next week have one game from each
Master System
Megadrive
Dreamcast
Neo Geo
Arcade
and repeat...
20 new titles every month with each game getting its chance to shine as the representative of its console for 2 weeks. They could keep this system running for ages. Each title can be bought individually or as a bundle which will save you money.Or even better a subscription service where you get access to them all but only for say 30 days.Every week there would be something to look forward to,not knowing what you're going to get.The Wii in its prime had 4 or 5 VC most weeks so it can be done.Sounds good to me.
Honestly though, I just want GameCube on Switch. I mean, I want the rest, but I'm in no rush to get anything else. But GC... I want it all on a portable device. Portable GC has been my dream for so long
