@Kazuo: That's what really bothers me. Just tell me, what does Intelligent Systems have besides Fire Emblem?
There is no doubt in my mind that Fates can easily top a million.....it'd be stupid if it can't.
You know, if Nintendo wouldn't scare us if some of the IP's we love so dearly don't sell well, we'd never see them again like chibi-robo for example.....and that's worrying because they need their IP to be in the industry. Fire Emblem is one IP that they have to like value as much as the others.....heck, its even doing better than what F-Zero could have ever hoped to achieve.

Given that the last F-Zero was released in... what, 2003.... is that really a fair claim?
Can I add? The last notable F-Zero game came out on the Gamecube, a console competing with the PS2, was not designed for mass appeal, was outsourced to SEGA (who I doubt were given the warning that F-Zero would be going on the hiatus it's now on), and was the third (the GBA entries honestly shouldn't count) game to come to the US. When you compare that with Awakening, which was on 3DS, the only successful dedicated gaming handheld of its generation, was designed for wider appeal, and was the sixth game to come to the west, it shouldn't be a question as to why the series has more traction than F-Zero, currently. If Fire Emblem hadn't shifted as it did in Awakening, it would probably be in the same place. It was given a chance though, which it (almost unfortunately) took.

You have the right to disagree with me and the ability to consider anything valid that I say; Please exercise both.
@SomeBitTripFan: It all comes to what IP Nintendo values most. Kid Icarus isn't something Nintendo doesn't seem to care much off, the same goes for F-Zero and I get that its business moves that cause those IP to fade fast.
But here's where Fire Emblem is really in need for Nintendo because its one of the few IP's that Nintendo has that does the following.
1. Has matured content
2. Hardcore gaming
If Nintendo gets rid of Fire Emblem, they partly get rid of themselves because they rely on their IP and its a known fact. I hate seeing Chibi Robo and Wario series now gone because it looks like Nintendo doesn't seem to want to make more games out of those IP.
@Socar: They potentially get rid of a still relatively minor base of their business. They could live without Fire Emblem like a person could live without their pinky toe. Would they be doing quite as well? No, they wouldn't, but they could survive on Mario alone, with some changes to their business. They'd probably have to either cut console development or work better with third parties. That said, cutting all other series excluding Mario would easily be beneficial to their relations with third parties (because third parties would not be competing with Nintendo's first-party line up in the same manner). Fire Emblem is one of the few series to include a decent plot (although the quality of said plot is debatable) and offer considerable difficulty (although the skill floor has been significantly lowered). It's valuable because it was strangely given multiple chances, but it can't hold a candle to Nintendo's key (Mario, Zelda, Pokemon) franchises.

^Except Fire Emblem is being developed by Intelligent Systems so it does matter to them at the most.
Also, you really are blind for thinking that Mario alone can save them as a first party dev. For a first party, having one IP alone is foolish whether it sells big or not as they'd want as many people as possible to get their products so of course they have to make more than just one IP. Even Gamefreak makes more than Pokemon games, thing is they aren't well known around yet.
If Mario does save Nintendo a lot, then how come his games didn't sell that huge for 3DS and Wii U? Infact, Mario is being outsold by Pokemon on 3DS and Splatoon outsold Super Mario Maker. As a Mario fan, I'm a bit hurt that Mario didn't reach the top for the 3DS but at the same time, its not that low so I'm happy in that regard.
That's like saying that Capcom is just fine with selling Monster Hunter alone when its only limiting their audience and for someone like Capcom, that's extremely bad in the long term. It'll print them money but they can't make something like Monster Hunter yearly seeing as how long japanese devs take time to make games compared to the west.
And pal, you haven't played Conquest which is pretty tough. But I do agree that as of now, the Fire Emblem games that I've played have a decent plot.
Look, I know that this IP can't get anywhere to Mario, Zelda and Pokemon but its a cool IP that Nintendo has and they need to keep their IP's alive because that's what makes them big.
@arronishere: Binding Blade (Roy's game) had its 14th anniversary yesterday.
That still seems random to me for Ninty to celebrate it with a sale, 14 isn't really a milestone and the game wasn't released outside of Japan but hey-ho I can pick up some of the games cheap.
That's not what I meant, google hardcore/mature gaming and what comes up will be very different to Fire Emblem.
I doubt even Google knows what "hardcore" is. Nobody knows what hardcore is. They have what they THINK it is, but it's like "normal"; no universal definition.
I just tried googling it to see what came up for curiosity sake, don't google it unless you're over 18 and have a fetish for CGI porn!
Whatever....I'm happy that FE isn't ignored too much like Metroid and F-Zero. It just that I want it to be a notable IP before it ends up being the opposite and I'm worried Intelligent Systems will do the next game because if they do what they already did for Birthright, that just makes the experience too similar....
I'm upset that Conquest didn't sell as well as Birthright to be honest.
I really love the artstyle for Awakening and Fates done by Yūsuke Kozaki, but I honestly would want a brand new artstyle. It would kinda help in making the next installment a fresh new game.
I overall love the artstyle in the series as it helps the characters to be all the more charming.
@DarthNocturnal: So what's the difference between evasion and avoid? Because both luck and speed have evasion and if its the same as avoid, then what's the specific difference?
Also, how is the Luck stat any different than Skill stat when having skills? Are skills luck generated as well?
Another example could be attack. For that it takes your weapon's MT and adds it with your unit's strength or magic depending on what kind of weapon is used.
However in battle it will also take into account the enemy's defence or resistance which will lower the total attack.
