If it has any of these things I'll lean towards yes, the more it has the more likely I'll get it:

  • Is a portable system of some description
  • Launches with at least one of Mario Kart, 3D Mario, Zelda or Metroid
  • A new idea that's as interesting as Splatoon, Brain Training or Wii Sports
  • Is reasonably priced
  • Is a decent upgrade from it's predecessor

If it's any of these things I'll lean more towards maybe:

  • It's a home console
  • The launch lineup has decent games but no system sellers
  • It's sold on the idea of more games coming within the first year and not at launch

And if it's any of these then probably not:

  • It's not a decent hardware upgrade
  • If it's too expensive
  • It doesn't have much software at launch
  • If we start to see a whole pile of games being delayed

*decent amount of 3rd party support.

Definity. Nintendo gaming systems have never let me down, even from launch onwards; whether or not the internet agrees with me is not relevant.

if it is the successor of the 3DS with a proper second circle pad: YES
if it is a console: 95% chance of not buying it. i am happy with playing PC games with my 360 controller.

is it really that crazy to know you are going to buy a product based on the company's track record?

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Depends on what games are available and if I still care about Nintendo then.

A new Wario Land game, or a new Mario platformer that's actually done the Mario 64/Sunshine style might tip the scales in its favour though...

Eh, not too sure tbh. While I love my Wii U, Nintendo missed a lot of opportunities with their first HD console. Unless the NX offers something really unique, I think I'm done with console gaming. Microsoft never appealed to me in the first place and Sony died for me when they decided to make you pay in order to play online (yeah yeah, I know about those "free" games you are renting with PS+)

Kind of, yeah. I spend weeks pondering purchases that cost as much as game consoles do. Each product should be evaluated for its own merits.

Looks at the barren release schedule of the Wii U two and a half years into its lifespan

Unless Nintendo really brings it with to quality games, powerful competitive hardware, and third-party support that allows them to get the titles other systems are getting, my answer is no. I don't intend to get the NX at launch or ever a couple years into its lifespan.

Did the Wii U have awesome games? Yes, but I felt burned by investing in a $300 dollar system, and watching every single multi plat this year skip the Wii U.

I'll buy the successor to the 3DS because I still think Nintendo is still doing things right when it comes to handhelds.

But the next Nintendo home console? I got burned with the Wii U and unless the NX blows me away, I'm not hopping onboard until the system is dirt cheap.

I don't have money to invest in multiple systems per generation. One thing that bothers me is that by the time the NX launches and struggles to establish itself in the market, the PS4 and Xbox One will just be hitting their prime in terms of top-quality games.

Can we like keep a tally of the people who say they won't buy one but then later change their minds when Metroid Prime 4, Super Mario Galaxy 3, Animal Crossing, Pikmin 4, Splatoon 2 and loads of 3rd parties are revealed to be it's launch line-up?

There were loads of third-party games in the Wii U's launch lineup, and look at where we are now.

The Wii U can't even get major titles like Mortal Kombat X, Dragonball Xenoverse, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, and countless others I could name off.

Even if the NX comes out of the gate with tons of third-party titles, its meaningless if the system can't sustain that support.

The Wii U launched with great third-party support and 2013 was a good year for the system, with major titles like Assassin's Creed IV, Injustice, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Splinter Cell: Blacklist all showing up on the Wii U.

And then 2014 happened, and the support from third-parties vanished.

If Nintendo really wants my support, they need to sustain third-party support on the NX.

If there are games I want at a price I can afford, I'll definitely get it at launch. I have no regrets with my Wii U and my 3DS still gives me enjoyment.

If there aren't games I'm interested in or the price is a bit steep for me, I'll wait a bit...like I did with the PS4.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I have got every Nintendo home console or handheld within a month of it coming out since the GameCube but am not sure if I will do this with the NX or not.

I got my Wii U on launch day and whilst I don't regret buying it on launch day as I wanted to play New Super Mario Bros U the empty release schedule that followed left a bad taste in my mouth. It didn't start picking up until 8 months after launch so I think I will wait until there are more games out or if the games in the launch window make it worth picking it up early.
I regret buying the 3DS at launch as there was not really any games I wanted to play so won't make that mistake again. If the launch games for NX are a proper 3D Mario then I might take the plunge otherwise this will be the first Nintendo system I don't buy around launch in over 12 years!

By that logic you possibly can't blame the people that are saying they'd rather wait, especially considering how many people feel burned by the Wii U recently. Your reasoning is just as good as theirs, and yet no one knows anything about it, as you said before.

I'll say no at first, but will look at it and want it out of curiosity. Other than that, I'll wait probably 6-months to a year, at least until the games start to pour out. It doesn't seem that their launch libraries have been really good with the previous systems. I bought the Gamecube on day one with Luigi's Mansion, Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2 and Wave Race Blue Storm, but then couldn't find a memory card for the system for quite a few months...which made me lose interest on playing the games. The Wii I bought on launch, but the games were limited (already had them on PS3)...but I did purchase Rayman Raving Rabbids and ended up loving the system. The 3DS had a terrible start, and waiting 4 months for the store to come on it and then another few months for some good games was absurd. The Wii U had more games on launch, but they weren't worth it to me. I bought New Super Mario (glitch fest game, but fun) and Zombi U, but then waited and waited for games to come on the store, as each week they just changed photos with nothing new added.

It all depends on the launch games. There would have to at least be 3 for it that I'd want to play (some type of Mario Adventure game or even maybe a Zelda-type game), and I don't want to pay high prices for additional accessories right away, and the store better be up and running with more than just a few games that are already released on the Wii, Wii U or other consoles.

I have the Wii U, PS3 and PS4 to keep me busy right now, and we're planning on getting an XONE, so it all depends on the above paragraph. From my personal point of view...I love nintendo and will always support them, but I MAY wait for this system.

@Operative: The mentions are clear by some, but others will always buy from the company that they love. My electronics (TV's, DVD Players, Bluray Players, Stereos) are always Sony...because they last to me and last a great deal. I love nintendo for their franchises, so I'll always get the next nintendo console...I love the Playstation, So I'll always get their next console. Some people love the X-boxes, so they'd get their next one...some people like Disney Animation, so they'll always see or buy theirs. I don't like disney, so I won't watch anything they make and I'm not a big X-box fan, so I could not purchase theirs (planning on getting the XONE though). It all goes by what people like, so it's not crazy that people would jump out there and buy anything that is nintendo. My kids love Mario, the Minions and the Rabbids, so they'd want anything they have out with them...it all comes down to being a fan...sort of like Musicians, Actors and various other things.

Yes I will get The NX at launch IF there are some worth while purchases. If not I'd get it still if they were able to convince me with some other aspect. Also I want to support Nintendo so that my kid can grow up knowing who they are and what they stand for.

Thank me Later.

I have a PC so third party support doesn't sway me either way. I'm swimming in more than enough content as is. So for a home console the only thing that matters to me is how good the early first party content is. Because that's the stuff I won't have access to otherwise.

For a portable? Well the software matters even less for a few reasons. Firstly an upgrade from the 3DS in terms of hardware will be a decent upgrade. It would also likely be cheaper than what a home console would cost so I'd be less picky. And lastly I doubt there will be many other options for a portable system anyways. Phones don't replace it. I doubt Sony will come back. What other options are there?

We know some things. We know whatever it is it'll almost surely be more capable in some aspect than the already existing platforms. We know that because of that it'll have some games that the current platforms won't get. We also know Nintendo's track record in terms of quality of software. For some that's enough.

@JLPick: I said nothing other than that you can use the same reasoning for not buying something. And honestly, if you just blindly follow a company like that, I think people like those are irresponsible consumers. Because we all know not everything that Nintendo, Sony, or MS do are just amazing. A good consumer judges each product from a company individually instead of just saying ""yeah sure I'll support them even if they don't satisfy me".

I'm allowed to change my mind when I see it, aren't I? All I'm saying is that I've never been disappointed by a Nintendo console, and that I can reasonably say that whatever they decide to make, it'll be something I'd be interested in. If it turns out to be some kind of half-console half-rabbit feeder, or free-to-play only machine, or something stupid like that. then I'll change my mind. Of course I'm going to make sure it's an idea worth my money before I buy it.

Got married.

I am not blaming people that would rather wait. I was just commenting about how he was basically calling those who already plan on buying the product crazy.

So basically....
"Yes, I'll probably buy it because it's Nintendo" -> crazy
"No, I'll never buy from Nintendo again because the Wii U didn't sell 100mill units" -> sensible
