Kinda like Wall-E, the first half is gold, the 2nd half is pretty decent with small parts that are gold. The humor was the type that could be groan-worthy elsewhere but really, really works here. Pretty great overall, but I just kinda wish it didn't go so much into cliche kid's movie (and story in general) mode after a while. Like how they did it was cool, but it felt odd compared to the tone earlier in the movie. The transition to fairly serious was...odd. Really only major problem I have though. The references were fantastic and it had some of the most glorious puns.

I was just looking at reviews of this on Metacritic, and I saw this user review, the only negative review.
Rating: 0 Name: NintendoSucks1.
"You know what the real problem is? There is nothing interesting about this video game at all. The gameplay is nonexistent, and instead of having a controller to play it. You have to sit in a theater and watch a really long cutscene. This game lacks any gameplay whatsoever."

I just lol'ed at that.
I'll certainly go see this movie when it comes out at RedBox.

I used to travel the stars, then I discovered Earth, and these incredibly addicting things called 'Video Games.'
And they said you couldn't buy happiness!

KarrotMan

You got to admit that the Paper man short is nothing short of Amazing They need to do a full length film with this type of art direction:
Untitled

As for the movie itself, I found the first part to be full of videogame cameos and references most gamers will appreciate, then the second part deviates from most of the cameos and becomes a simple heart warming Family-oriented flick. I loved the visuals and how they meshed the 8-bit sprites in the CG. I'd rank this higher than Bolt and Tangled but would tie in with Meet the Robinsons.

Fancy a Karrot Cake?

I loved the movie. My favorite part was Sonic's line.

This was the first movie Disney Animation Studios has done that had a Pixar feel to it. My kids loved it because of the story without the references to video games of yesteryear. However, it appealed to he adults in so many ways. It was just all around fun.

IGN gave it a 9.5/10, but It's a little suspicious considering that they had major advertisements of it in the couple of weeks leading up to the review...

No matter, I'm still gonna try an see this in the holidays; it looks great!

Currently playing: Rhythm Heaven, Minecraft (XBLA), Pokemon B/W 2, Halo 4, The Denpa Men: They Came By Wave, Fallblox, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (GCN)

I just think IGN just completely fell in love with the reference because of their "we are video nerds...ness" and didn't think properly about anything else, giving it a 9+ by default. So it was IGN being IGN.

It's still really good but that 2nd half prevented it from being a true classic imo.

Gah I want to see it so badly! But I'm on vacation in Florida and nobody wants to spend time at a theater while we're here. But there is a chance that it will rain tomorrow, and they did say it'd be an alternative... Fingers crossed!

My entire family doesn't want to see it

Why do people point to their wrists when asking for the time, but don't point to their crotch when they ask where the bathroom is?

I like it how not only they had the cameos, but the made-up games seemed like actual video games (like Hero's Duty's grim and gritty plot and videogame-like objectives ("Shoot the eggs before they hatch!") and Sugar Rush's whole arcade asthetic, as well as the unfinished secret level).

They should've made movie-accurate versions of these games as part of a console tie-in. Those cheapy browser games on the website just don't cut it. Heck, even Fix-It Felix Jr. wasn't entirely movie accurate, even though it seems they had all they needed to make it that way. It would take like, what, a few weeks for Disney to develop that?

Oh, actually, speaking of the tie-in game, do any of you know if it's any good? Specifically, the Wii version?

I just saw it. LOVED IT It makes me so proud to have a passion for video games.

The story was surprisingly really good. Although I wish there were more cameos later on. If only Mario was in the movie! I really liked the dynamic between Ralph and Vanellope. Turbo made a great villain. Overall I enjoyed it.
