There already is a fifty-first state. Didn't any of you get the memo? D:

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
so i've taken a few arbitrary suggestions and ignored most of them. See--I'm already like a real governor!
Based on the input I've gotten, we're going with Dirtucky Murtakuvania. Governor's chair is filled. Otaku will be my Prime Minister of Pain (he administers beatings publicly) and feenie's in charge of roundhouse kick training for my army of pirahna-throwing walrii (plural of walrus in Murtakuvanian) so that they'll have both long range and short range efficacy.

This is about as huge as the talks for Australia to become a republic, and thus completely independent from Britain and the Queen.
The Queen is only the current head of state of Australia. For all intents and purposes, Australia is independent. But I can appreciate why Australia want to go further and declare themselves a republic.
Meanwhile, in Britain, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England are all seeking to break from the Union (England to a lesser extent - when we ask for a referendum on a dedicated parliament, we are told we don't want one - even though the consensus is overwhelming) - even the English county of Cornwall (fuelled by the concept of Celtic brotherhood) wants independence from the UK government.
I wonder what will happen to Nintendo Australia if we become a republic. Will we lose support from NoE? Are we already through the looking-glass? Maybe I should move to Dirtucky Murtakuvania...or Olympus Mons...

Yeah, this will never happen. Living in the southwest, it is interesting how charged the debate is locally. As far as a 51st state, northern California and southern Oregon have been proposing this for a while, calling the new state something like "Jefferson" I believe. I don't understand why Puerto Rico isn't technically a state. They get to vote for the presidency and all that.
I wonder how long this will last. It is like when Cape Cod was planning on separating from Massachusetts. It was a pretty strong idea until they saw how badly the prices and taxes were going to rise...or something like that...I don't remember.
