Topic: What should mario do to keep things fresh?

I often see people complain mario doesn't do enough new. Especially nsmb games.

Yet I never see people actually post ideas for what mario could do.
I feel like that developers if they read nintendolife may get inspired.
and even if the developers don't read these boards at the very least I think it'd be fun.

If you have an idea and feel they should use it then i would suggest that in your post you give them permission to use it. Otherwise They can't use the idea. and yes I have a few ideas myself But I won't post them here as the post I made containing them is rather long.

1. Don't release Mario games that are that similar to each other unless they are a minimum of 2 years apart from each other (and I'd argue they need to wait longer just because of the rapid releases in the past few years)
2. Have people make less advertised (but still advertised because Mario) platformer/s that is/are very different from what you expect from a Mario platformer like when they extended the original Donkey Kong into a Gameboy puzzle platformer for example (and then the semi-sequel a decade later that randomly turned into Lemmings)
3. Make a new major Mario platformer with a very heavy focus on a new gameplay idea while still feeling like a Mario game

that's essentially all I ask for, and I don't have much reason to believe Nintendo can't do this

I've never felt Mario wasn't fresh. NSMB's 4 games don't even begin to touch the annualized non-freshness of many third party game franchises.

They should add a actual story to the game instead of peach just gets captured or make a game where you play as bowser or bowser Jr. and you see the perspective of them instead of mario

I have three ideas for mario games but I will only be posting two In this post
i hearby give nintendo permission to use any idea in my post.
My first idea
How about a wind based power up?
You would use to blow things away from you or to move platforms that are connected to fans for example.

next idea.
This is more an idea I had when I first heard about galaxy so you can consider it more of an expansion of galaxy then anything.
four words dynamic control of gravity.

In the majority of the games levels,if not all of them you'll be able to change the level of gravity.
You can make it higher or lower. this potentially would be used to solve puzzles but you could also use it to make sorta custom difficulty.
If you want to make a level harder increase the gravity. if you want a level easier you could decrease the gravity(sorta like using fludd if i'm honest,only the difference is you could stay hovering indefinitely with low enough gravity) also like you'd think lowering or raising the gravity too much is bad. some levels won't be beatable at all if you don't be wary of this. (this is to make the gravity somewhat realistic but only a little)

But seriously, I agree with what @kkslider5552000, they should seperate similar Mario games 2 years apart. Also, I think they should give a level editor to 3D World and let people on Miiverse create their own levels (and a track creator for MK8).

I stand by this idea I've had for years.

Super Mario Net. Bowser one day makes a digitizing gun that he uses on Peach to trap her on his computer, but the gun malfunctions and ends up bringing the whole world into the web. Mario must travel through the Internet to defeat bowser, find peach, and save the world.

The biggest benefit of this concept is that it allows the thematic freedom of 64 and the Galaxy games while still presenting an original concept for Mario.

I might as well post My third idea.
I will warn you this post will be long.
Final idea i had was for a waluigi based game so I'm not sure nintendo would use it for mario.

basically the idea of the game would to be encourage cheating ("cheat to win" gameplay.)
like how the gamepad works in nsmb u you can place your own platforms(platforms you place don't disappear or disappear much slower) you can stun enemies pop more coins in the course more power ups,stun bosses,move the goal post or star,or even give yourself an invincible pwing that last the entire stage.

You might think this sounds too easy but there are many catches.
first of all every cheat you use drains a "cheat meter" some actions will drain it a lot.
the cheat meter will normally restore after each stage HOWEVER "special cheats" (like moving the goal posts) will make the cheat meter NOT refill for SEVERAL STAGES. (beating the same stage you just beat will not refill it only playing a different stage each time until the meter fills up will work)

in addition like super mario 3dworld there will be red hearings like fake goal posts/stars.
beating the game with using cheats A LOT will get you one ending and a special reward.
however beating the game with using cheats ALMOST NEVER will get you another ending and another special reward.

the game is beatable without cheating once there are some puzzles that require you to cheat but anytime you are required to cheat the game doesn't count that towards ending 1 and required cheats in a level refill much faster then they would normally would.
as I said It doesn't really fit mario but I still think it's a good idea.

What works for Mario is fresh level designs like 3D land/World. Something that will make us want to get that Mario game but in a good way not in the way like everyone's got it so I should as well. Brand new visuals like Paper Mario maybe rather than the recycled models used in the New series.

Mario is fine the way it is. Its just that people are either jealous that a simple character that doesn't do much ends up doing great or that they know that it'll end up doing well that it just won't matter to them.

@kkslider5552000 Nintendo barely makes new Mario games that are repeated again and again until after like five years. The new series itself is made only for one installment each. Granted, its very similar but that's because the visuals are just recycled over and over again rather than something new.

@Azaris Its funny because many like Charles Martinet want to see a Waluigi game happen but because he's been hated by critics, Its unlikely that Nintendo will ever get the chance to do this.

Usually this is true but then 2011-2013 happened and I will make fun of them for it until long after it is amusing. Try and stop me.

Captain Toad ironically is about what I wanted, as it does have an entirely new gameplay mechanic. Not jumping. Works for me.

@sleepingmudkip they kinda do that already in the rpg games of mario (funnily enough theres even mario & luigi bowsers inside story that fills your comment on playing as bowser seeing things from his perspective)

All they need to so is change up the visual style and introduce a new major gameplay mechanic. Pretty much the same thing they do with the 3D Mario games to keep those fresh.

If Super Mario Galaxy took place on a tropical island in space and Mario would have had a water pack named F.L.U.D.D 2.0 it would have been pretty darn boring. That is pretty much what is happening with the NSMB games. They all feel, look and play the same.

All Nintendo need to do is change up the visuals & introduced a new gameplay mechanic. Imagine a 2D Mario game with a style like Rayman Origins/Legends, Kirby's Epic Yarn or, preferably, something entirely new.

I'd like to see a new 3D Mario made in the style of Shenmue : Mario Shen U or Super Mario Shenshine it could be called

It doesn't need to be dark like Shenmue,it could be upbeat and almost parody.It will be a huge open living world where Shy Guys and Goombas and co will go about doing whatever it is that they do in real time.There will be real weather effects,an Animal Crossing style of progression,multiple tasks to go about in any order you wish,old arcade machines to play in free time,couple of Mario Kart tracks to race on,a Nintendo Land theme park.Mario will have to work,fix sinks,clear drains.And I will stop there before it gets even dafter than it already is.
