That the Play Station was originally going to be an addon for the SNES to complete with the Sega CD. After a disagreement on who held the rights of the games for the Play Station, Nintendo at the last minute went with Philips and broke the deal they had with Sony. Sony instead of scrapping the project decided to make it a stand alone system rather than an add on for an existing system but due to copy right reasons had to change the name to Playstation.
