1. Purchasing games for your consoles on the website
2. Notifications about new content (sounds similar to what we already get on Wii U and 3DS)
3. Rewards as a replacement for Club Nintendo. Digital content, merchandise and discounts
4. A unified friend list (and I'd assume you could also grab friends from facebook etc)
5. Cloud storage (they specifically mentioned saves and character data)
6. Real world applications with links to theme parks, movies and retail (???)
1) I thought you could already do that. Regardless, I'd never use it. If I'm going to buy a game then I'd eventually turn on my console when I was going to play it, so I'd just buy it then.
2) Notifications already exist, and are pretty useless for anyone who uses a site like this, who will get that information days before a one sentence notification pops up from Nintendo.
3) We'll see what they look like and how good this system actually is.
4) I have no interest in this. Friends who have one of the consoles I already have added. The lack of personal messaging has always been the real issue, but ok now we can more easily add friends that we already likely had.
5) Save data is safe, so that's a small plus, but to be honest if my Wii U broke or got stolen I wouldn't be buying a new one anyway.
6) Never going to use any of that personally.
Not really impressed at all. I was hoping for cross-play at least, but Nintendo still don't realize how much sense that would make. Also a simple messaging system on my 3DS to message my friends outside of Miiverse? Please? This stuff isn't hard, Nintendo.
Confusion aside, I am beyond ready for some sort of Club Nintendo replacement to hit the West. I swear, every game I've purchased since Club Nintendo went down, I've missed it.

I wouldn't be so cynical. Sure it's possible to have cloud-saves without cross-play but you can't have cross-play without cloud-saves. If cloud-saves exist then going that one step further and having cross-play is trivially easy. I'm not sure what the point is without also having cross-buy but still.
As for your other criticisms that I didn't quote. The bit about a unified friends list linked to other services not being a big deal? Well of all the things this is one I couldn't disagree more about. On the Wii U it's neater than it used to be because there's one ID and only one side has to interact. I post my NNID on my facebook feed and anyone who sees it can add me. But why do I have to go through that step at all? If I add a friend on facebook why can't I get an option to add them as a friend on my Nintendo console?

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"
You... you can change your nickname?! Could it be, Nintendo is actually implementing something that Sony hasn't, and is showing absolutely no intention of implementing?
@yokokazuo: Still, your NNID won't be visible to anyone anymore. From the look of it, in the future NNIDs will not be used as the unique identifier that your friends search up and use to register you on the friends list. NNID is apparently only a sign-in ID now. Only your Mii nickname and your email address are visible to others (the latter I believe can be hidden).
@IceClimbers: Don't take this the wrong way, but does that mean Nintendo will almost always get automatically get slammed if Sony/Microsoft does something and Nintendo doesn't?
God first.

I forgot to mention it, but for those with Japanese Nintendo Accounts, there were 40% discounts given on select games earlier this month until the 24th or so. Some of the games included were Lego City Undercover and Trine 2 (or 1? I forget...)
There are new games on sale now for 40% again.
Not seen in the picture are Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins, Kirby Triple Deluxe, Pikmin 3 and NSMB2.

Public service announcement: Nintendo Account registration is now live. You can use your Nintendo Network ID, Facebook, Google, etc. accounts to register:
edit: it seems the service was already confirmed some time ago for a bunch of countries that are not curretly supported, among them mine. Hopefully they will be added later on.
