So the news is Sony sold ALL their Square Enix shares worth 48 million dollars. Should Nintendo take this chance and try and buy some shares? Or they should just say "meh". Honestly I think Sony is in deep poopoodoodoocacapoopledoggiedooples. I really hope they can turn around around and stay in the game.
I'm not sure if Nintendo should really bother purchasing Squire Enix stock right now.
As for Sony, it is true that they are running into financial trouble but they are trying to turn it around. They posted profit in annual report in 2013 but they haven't posted their 2014 annual report yet. While profits aren't absolutely everything, I am hoping that they post profit for their financial report for 2014. I would like to see Sony stay in the gaming industry.
There could be many reasons why Sony sold the stocks. They could be trying to make their finances look better for their stockholders. They could have sold it because they may feel that Square Enix isn't worth investing in anymore or they could feel that Square Enix's stock might go down even more.
Square will know how to handle this. They made Fortune Street!

Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)
It might be a good idea to buy some shares seeing as even Square Enix themselves are looking to change and revert back to making RPGS like they used to after seeing the huge support and love of Bravely Default. Who knows...
It doesn't even make sense about why they had this stock, in the first place. The only time Nintendo owns stock, is if they gain exclusive rights to the content, like Rare Ware or Retro Studios, at least as far as I'm aware.
@TopLaytonsHat
That's the thing, though. Sony could have had every single SE game be exclusive since 6th gen. They didn't invest enough in the first place, for a purchase like this to make sense, and now they are taking approximately a 75% loss on this sale.
This is terrible for Sony, but also for SE. I don't think Sony is going to be the first major investor to bail on them. Is SE even making money on Sony platforms right now? They had to go multiplat with FFXIII, something they've never done before, and FFXV is shaping up to be one of the biggest disasters in recent years. We all know Tomb Raider sales aren't going to float the company.
I get the feeling that right now, SE is making most of its money on Nintendo anyway.
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.
Sony AND Square Enix are both losing money and struggling financially. This situation says alot about Sony and Square Enix.
I don't know how Nintendo feels toward Square Enix BUT they should still help Square Enix in some form.
Why?
Just so Square Enix can OWE Nintendo someday and feel obligated. MUHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHA.
I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

@Blast
That's part of the problem. SE doesn't have to do anything for Sony, despite being partially owned by them. That's why Sony having this stock, is more confusing than why they are selling it. It was a poor investment, so now it's a poor sale.

Nintendo localized Dragon Quest and Bravely Default and they both became hits.

@SCAR392 Did Sony own a majority share though? Maybe they couldn't get the rights to have complete exclusivity on their consoles
They didn't own a majority share, but that's exactly why the "investment" was basically useless. If they weren't able to get a majority share, there's no reason why they should have bought stocks.
Look at how Nintendo handled business with Rare and Retro Studios. They own/owned 49% of each company. By that point, the second party company is basically required to be exclusive to the platform that company owns. A company owns 49% of your company, so you want that company to do well.
EDIT: Sony owns like 9% or so of SE. It's an obscure # that doesn't do much for either party,
I can't see nintendo buying squenix, partly for the same reason I don't see them buying sega they are not just 3rd parties, they are 3rd parties that's reach covers various platforms including PC and mobile areas nintendo doesn't seem too interested in.

makes sense, Nintendo isn't interested and doesn't want to compete with PC and mobile so getting companies that own games for such platforms could be troublesome...

Smart move Sony. SE hasn't been performing will that others would have hope for, I can see why would it be a bad time to buy stock from SE. SE seriously needs to get their act together.
To be honest with Squeenix's recent reputation you cant blame them. The Final Fantasy series is getting worse every entry despite fans always speaking up about how they don't care about XIII, and the last 4 Dragon Quest games haven't been released outside of Japan, with no evidence of them doing so in the future.
