After recent rumors have sparked much conversation across multiple threads, some related to the thread topic and some not, I figure Nintendolife forums could use a general thread for discussing any rumors, espcially during these crazy times of general lack of communication from Nintendo. Speculate away!
I heard people will ignore this thread and still make their own rumour threads, the grapevines even tell of people who might post these rumours as facts.
I heard the eshop maintenance coming on Monday is for another stability update for 3DS solely for the purpose of the inevitable bad puns/jokes that come out of the Nintendo Life article.
In all seriousness, people are speculating stuff to happen cuz of the investor meeting, but I highly doubt anything will come of it. It'll be the usual "We've sold this many, we know titles x and y will be a driving force through the holidays, and the mobile game will be done soon". Cue another few months of no information.
Well, I guess I'll be the first to actually take this thread seriously, if no one else will. This is the perfect place for me to post about my (possibly outlandish) prediction that Super Mario Sunshine (and potentially other GC games) might be released on the Wii U Virtual Console. You see, I got to noticing something... peculiar about my Super Mario Maker timeline poster that lists all of the Mario platformers. In the bottom-left corner of the poster, it shows that the games listed have an ESRB rating of E-E10+. Correct me if I'm wrong, but no Mario platformer to date has been given an E10+ rating. Super Mario Sunshine released in 2002, which I believe was a couple years before the E10+ rating ever came into existence. The Gooper Blooper boss fight, in which you have to rip off the poor squid's tentacles, always seemed a bit graphic for an E game. Whenever a game is released on the Virtual Console, it has to be rated again by the ESRB. Could it be that Sunshine is being released on Wii U with an upped age rating, thus explaining why the poster says E-E10+ and not just E for Everyone? Or is this a totally off-the-wall assumption? I posted about this to Miiverse, and a resident of the UK commented, saying his poster only says "PEGI 3" and nothing more. So perhaps it was nothing more than an error on NoA's part. Or maybe the game hasn't been rated for Europe yet, and we Americans might actually get a Virtual Console release before them, for once. What do you guys think about this?
Edit: I guess @Operative beat me to the serious punch.
Based on my theory, (which probably isn't at all accurate,) I think it would just be a Virtual Console release, since the image on the poster has such a low resolution. If it were an HD remake, the poster would probably just say "E for Everyone," since it used the outdated GC version of the game. But that's just speculation, and I'll probably end up being wrong, who knows?
Hmm... I was intending this to be more about rumors that were already being discussed by the community, not your personal theories. Should I change the title? Maybe it's fine...
I don't see a VC or remake of Sunshine happening on the Wii U because it requires analogue triggers. Yes, Nintendo released a GCN controller adapter but they aren't going to make/re-release any game that requires a limited release accessory. If the NX controllers have those patented scrollable R/L buttons, Sunshine will be playable in some form on it.
Not_Soos I checked the ESRB website, and Sunshine is still listed as just E... @DarthNocturnal's explanation makes some sense, but Strikers and Dream Team aren't on the poster, and are both spinoffs of the main Mario series, so accounting for them seems pretty odd... I guess only time will tell! Anyways, I have an unfounded rumor to share myself!
So, the other night I was talking to my brother, who earlier this year went to Japan for about three months on a missions trip. He made a few friends while he was there, and still talks with some of them. Anyways, he told me that he was talking with on of his Japanese friends, when out of nowhere, his friend said something along the lines of "So, do you think the rumors of Kirby Air Ride 2 are real?" My brother and him had never played KAR, or even talked about it, so his friend bringing it up like this was really weird. Neither of us have any idea where his friend got the idea from, but hey, there's been a real lack of things to get me hyped about the possibility of a sequel, so I'll take it! Also, maybe his friend is actually one of Sakurai's nephews!

@OlicityBlows They could make it so L and R function as halfway pressing in on the trigger, ZL and ZR function as pressing it in all the way, and the Select button functioning as Z. (This is kinda random and off-topic, but why is it called a Select button, when there are several different buttons used for selecting things?)

Older games used to make you press select to change between startup options like (1 Player / 2 Player ). Why? I couldnt tell you

That sounds plausible but it isn't a very good control scheme. Why are people so nostalgic for this game that they would accept a vastly worse control scheme to play it on modern hardware? This is off topic, but it is further proof people would rather have familiar and rehashed experiences than new ones which is sad.

That control scheme would work perfectly fine. Sure, you lose the ability to control exactly how far you spray the water, but let's be honest, there isn't any reason to spray water an weaker than the max amount. When I played Sunshine, I either held the R button down right before it clicked, or a little further so it clicked. This is all you needed, as pressing R half way or anywhere in between basically had you spraying a shorter distance, which is completely useless. So if a remake were to happen, all we would need is R for clicking the R button, and ZR for pressing it almost all the way down.
