I saw a 2 GB one for 12$ (Canadian) yesterday at Wal-Mart and was wondering if I should get it. I just don't really see any use for it except for extending my system memory.
Not right now, there's not enough games for the DSi yet. I just recently bought a 2GB SD Card from Kinney Drugs for $15 for my Wii and I love it. I use my 2GB for WiiWare and my 1GB for my VC.

If u like music and would like to listen to it on ur dsi, then yes. Otherwise not until the virtual console comes. Or also you can get it to transfer photos into ur pc.
I really don't need it for music, (have an iPod) and I still have a fair amount of memory left so until the VC comes out, I probably don't need one. Thanks for the help!

You can find it cheaper online, I would suggest that as I was able to get a 2 gig for 7 US Dollars.
I would recommend putting the games you download onto your SD cards so that if for some reason your DSi crashes are get damaged you will not loose your games.

once virtual handheld comes out on the dsi shop and then hi capasidy SD cards works and they make a sd card menu like they did on the wii then buy a SD card but for now if you like to play music on your DSi buy a memory card for that

can you backup your dsiware and save them on an sd card (to play later?) if not, why not?

@minial100: I got a 2-gig SD card off of amazon for like three bucks. i wouldn't pay $12 for one unless I had to have it like right then and it was a life-or-death emergency.

Its worth getting a small one just to mess around with the music program on the DSi. I use my smartphone for listening to music on the go anyway, but the cool little things you can do on the music channel is quite a nice little time waster. Like playing a little mario bros. mini game where the music generates coins that you have to collect and if you get over 300 in one song POW blocks appear and you can use them to jump off of the screen. lol. also adding your own sound samples to your favourite songs is a nice touch as well.
As far as DSiware goes I wouldnt think you would need one yet but having the ability to transfer your photos from your DSi to your PC is also good.

you can backup your Ware on SD. it's a good thing, 'cause if you delet Ware games you delet the save file too. so if you are re-downloadng the game you have to start from he beginning. thats not the case if you copy it to SD-card.
but you have to copy the games back and vice versa. there ist not (yet) a kinky Sd card menu like the wii has. but i think it's just a matter of time.
So if you copy it to an SD card, and delete the save file on the DS, I can just copy it back from the SD?
the savefile is bound to the downloaded game. meaning, there is no special save file. its all in your one download. so if you delet/copy copy a game, the "save file" goes with it.
and yes, all that is just possible on one and the same DSi.
soon nintendo needs to make a sd card app like on the wii maybe in a future update and then you can acsess it by taping on it in the app slots were apps like dsi sound are placed and can be moved around with your styli
