YAY!!!!!1111one111112!!!!! Analog stick would be nifty and expected, hears hoping for that crystal chronicles port that was mentioned earlier. Oh, and achievements are a blast and an easy way to expand games, I'd love to see them in a hand held.

My goodness, you really are an obnoxious fanboy. Achievements are fun. There are plenty of people that would like to see them in Nintendo consoles, and I think the 3DS is a robust enough console, from the little we know of it, to feature them.

I honestly don't see how achievements could hurt a game.
Sure, if devs decided to replace them with actual content, I'd be pretty ticked, but since they usually don't, I don't see how they could possibly detract from the experience. They're usually quite fun to get, and they increase replay value as well.

if i'm an obnoxious fanboy, then you're a repulsive troll. achievements suck IMO, they serve no purpose. If they're put inside the games like trophies they only distract you from the game and waste your time. it's not even something technologically superior - it could have been on the DS already.

I would actually like achievements if we actually get a reward from doing them, like unlocking something or getting Nintendo Points or whatever, lol.

They definitely distract me from the experience, if they're like for examples the "riddles" in Batman Arkham Asylum. That was horrible. The point is that they already can be put in any system, it's not a power thing. They could have been on the NES. If you want to display them online then it's just the most basic thing. The comment coupled with the troll/fanboy comment about the GC and the Wii made me reply.

The number of Nintendo players with backloggery accounts would suggest that there's enough people out there that want them.

Actually, I think a dual-processor is important to properly implement achievements. The good thing about the trophies on the PS3 is that, once you've achieved them, they can automatically be uploaded to your Facebook account, without disrupting the game you're playing.

Not that I'm that tech-savvy, but as far as I can tell, it's not a coincidence that it's taken until point where consoles can multitask that achievements have appeared.

I don't know how you can possibly say they are distracting from the experience, when there's no requirement whatsoever to go hunting for them if you don't want to.

Guess what WalthzElf, when a user comments he/she states his/her own opinion. I have no idea what you just said, but I don't want them.

Anyone who says that getting a trophy or achievement is lame or crap is deluded.

The joy of getting a trophy is just....addictive.(Sorry 360 fans but in my opinion, trophies are much better and also have more variety.)

Trophies and achievements are just awesome to get and compare with friends.
You can have a race to see who can get that platnium first AND....it gives more replay value in single player games.

Oh and just to add,the Wii is more powerful than a gamecube....but not that much...if....much at all.
We don't even know if its more powerful than the original xbox....

I don't care for replay value actually.. I like to finish the game and move on to another. I guess trophies appeal to obssesive people, or those 'hardcore' gamers, but they're so tedious and so boring that I can't stand them. if you are going for replay value, It's better for example to try and to finish all levels in SMG which is actually playing and not just collecting question marks in hidden caves and sewers.

actually, the wii is more powerful than both, we know that for a long time now, but that's off topic.

The Wii is only a minor jump in power over the Gamecube. I was having a bit of a joke that blew up badly. The 3DS will be nearly as powerful as the Wii, that's a good thing

It's lovely that you don't care and thing you know what's best for everyone else when it comes to enjoying games, but from this thread alone you're in the minority, and I hope Nintendo doesn't listen to you

If the purpose of achievements is misinterpreted by the gamer, then that is not the fault of the system but the fault of the game player. I'm pretty sure most view the system as a way to enhance the replay-ability of a game. Even those who are achievement/trophy wh***s will play the game first, and then replay for achievements. If you go into a game trying to get all achievements/trophies right up front, then yes you will miss the experience of the game, but if you are unlocking them in the spirit the system was intended, you won't. You are the first person that I've heard even hint that they went for all the riddles upfront. I didn't even consider it a portion of the game. I completed that portion once I had finally defeated the game and not once did I feel what was in essence a side story to the game to be distracting. In the end, if you use the achievement system as it's intended, a method to add replay value, then I don't see how you reach the conclusion you're reaching...the system isn't broken, your interpretation of it is.

ANYWAYS...back to the 3DS. I think this is great. The last DS I planned on getting was the DSi, got it at release so I'll have gotten plenty of miles out of it...on top of the 3DS being announced as backwards compatible, and I"m satisfied with all my purchases. Plus, even though Nintendo is usually pretty good with initial releases, I'll still wait a good 6 months to purchase, get through initial release just to make sure all bugs are worked out...people complaining about it coming out now because of the DSi XL make the same argument people who bought the micro made and I say...the DS has been out for years now...how did you not know something was coming soon?

The one thing that has me concerned about the 3DS (besides the crapware 3D games) is about digital transfer. I have roughly 40 games or so on my DSi, so when I head in to upgrade, whether it's launch day or whenever, if I'm gonna be able to keep my games. While some (like ZENGAGE and White-Water Domo) I wouldn't mind losing, it's others like Aura-Aura, Dark Void Zero and Number Battle that I'd get really mad if I had to re-buy tham and start from scratch.

Exactly.

I haven't played SMG, but the stars in SM64 were definitely achievements. I like 'em.

As for the 3DS, if it has Backwards Compatible and at least Tegra graphics, then what's not to like? Personally I hope to ditch handhelds for a 10-ish inch tablet by then though.

I suspect (and I hope it’s right) that, given the 3DS is backwards compatible with DS games, Nintendo will offer a way to transfer DSiWare games as well. Surely they don’t expect us to start from scratch.

Sean007s

Actually, can someone clarify on which is more powerful between an Xbox and Wii?
Because last from what I heard, both consoles have the upper hand in different aspects.

Also I enjoy the game as I collect the trophies.
Do you realise that my copy of Resident Evil 5 would be collecting dust if it weren't for trophies?
See,i'm getting more value for my money and thats a good thing.

How much do you want to bet that Nintendo brings in achievements and trophies for their next console?

One thing though is I'd expect it to have shoulder buttons, and wouldn't be surprised if they won't be improved at keeping dust out.
