Promises 3D gameplay without glasses.... interesting.

Glad I didn't get a DSi. 3D is kind of a shock for a handheld system.

So this is the long awaited successor to the DS? Hmm, E3 should be very interesting this year. I can't wait to hear more about it.

Well it won't come out till next year, I'm still glad I got a DSi.

Well its backwards compatible with DS so I doubt its going to be anything crazy in design like the VB was.

I think March 2011 would be a good time because then I get nearly two years out my DSi, which is plenty.

...and this sounds ludicriously awesome. I want a port of the original Crystal Chronicles for it!

I personally see no need for it... 3D is just one of those trends that comes now and then. I imagine much shovelware akin to what happened when motion controls were introduced.

No they mean true 3D.

This would be a logical next step. I wouldn't be surprised if more of the upcoming generation systems would support 3D.

Some other tidbits. Not all of this is confirmed.

1) Two screens, with virtually no seam between them when open
2) Screens are higher resolution, but exact resolution is unknown
3) Powered by nVidia Tegra
4) Roughly as powerful as a Gamecube, and apparently similar to program for
5) Uses carts - believed to be same size as DS/DSi carts, only with different guts
6) Due out in 2010 in at least one territory

Hmm... I wonder if 3D on a handheld device will be practical though. You'd have to hold the device at a specific distance/angle from your face for it to work properly. You'd probably get tired eyes after a short while too. :/ But that's just speculation, hopefully Nintendo has the technology down to pat.

Given Iwata's concern with 3D, I'm sure if they're doing it, they're doing it right. I have a feeling it might not be as 3D as we're thinking it will be though. Just have to wait until E3, I guess.

Considering previous releases I fully expect 3DS to be launched at Japan in late November 2010. With this a a new M+ Zelda, it will be a hell of a 3E this year.

It might not. If I've learned one thing about E3 it's that even with amazing software and hardware, Nintendo can still screw up E3 by letting stupid people talk (looking at you cammie!) or trying out a game for WAYYYY too long and also talking about their sales numbers.

I am soo stoked for this. Ought to be one of my favorite handhelds (if not game systems in general) _{good thing my fiance and I didn't get it, especially after hearing that there was a true ds successor coming out.}

@Randomwiiplayer: You should have seen this coming. There's been talk about the next handheld and it was confirmed that some developers already had kits.
Guess you thought they wouldn't do it so soon, huh? Sorry about that dude.

Now, by 3d, do they mean Avatar 3d, or the camera dsi game 3d?
