Listening to the soundtrack on youtube, repeditive but fun. Um, yeah, I'm just reminded of this bizarre Suda51 title (yeah, a Suda51 title is bizarre, surprising) and it was so interesting. Part of me wants to highly recommend it to everyone, but another part thinks it's one of the most dissappointing games I've ever played. I beat the game about 5 years ago and I'm still not fully sure how to feel about it, it's pretty fascinating in that way.

The game is an RPG. You play as a young boy working with a Professor and unknowingly working with...you, the player, to help recover his energy cells from the group the CosmoNOTs. You often just let your character automatically attack againts enemies and only control when he uses magic attacks or items, one of those types of RPGs. You also have stickers that are kinda ultra attacks and costumes which I believe are how you use magic attacks (you get magic powers from a chef costume!). It also has a bizarre Area 51 parody as an area, which is cool. It's also kinda weird, yet such a typical JRPG at the same time. The entire ending is probably the best part of it though, it's in my top 5 favorite game endings, no joke.

I mean, if you like Earthbound weirdness with some of the most clever use of the 4th wall I've ever seen and can get past the god awful overgrinding needed in the middle of the game, I'd get it. I really just hope it gets a sequel that fixes the problems, and has more focus on the characters and story. They said there would be a sequel before the game was even released and I'm still waiting for it.

I thought it was brilliant, the ending especially, but also the airport scene, the costumes, and the retro throwback area. I was not disappointed in the least. Combat wasn't super exciting and was most pretty easy, but same goes for Earthbound and most RPGs that are entertaining enough to want to grind a bit.

The only fault I can pin on it is that it does nothing to make me want to replay it. I think that just comes from being on a handheld though. Hard to pour too many hours into such a tiny screen.

Is the difficulty the only problem in the game? because this game has really piqued my interest. I absolutely love earthbounds plot and i am really tempted to get this. Should I?

it'll probably be reduced price, why not

The main problem with the game is pretty much, too much grinding needed, not enough areas (when it should be reversed if anything). And anything else relevent to those problems (BACKTRACK TO HEAL). It's pretty bad in that regard (much worse than Earthbound ever could be), although the areas you do go to are quite cool and memorable. I mean the game's not like absurdly short but it should be much larger for a full priced RPG.

It's an RPG. It's not difficult. If you have a problem with an enemy, the solution is generally simple: grind or bring more healing items. Some puzzles (not that there are many, if I remember correctly) might frustrate you, but just look up the solution if it bothers you. All in all it is a pretty easy game.

Yeah, Contact is one of the most bizarrely good and confusingly underwhelming games I've ever played. Almost everything about the game screams mediocrity or awesomely weird, but in the end it doesn't become either. It's really a game for those that just want something unexpected.

yes, but the middle parts of the game took me FOR. EV. ER. to grind enough to get through. Like worse than the NES Final Fantasies, I'm dead serious. I'm pretty sure in Area 52, I tried at least half a dozen times to get all the way from the only(?) save point to the end (although I think I backtracked to save, once I beat the snake miniboss thing) thinking "there's no way I'd have to grind more than that right?"

Wow, I didn't put that much time into the game. Not sure what I did different.

One of my favorite games of all time. When the hell are they going to make a sequel? Suda51 said they were "developing" it shortly after. Unless, he really wasn't. I don't know...

I want a sequel!

Akira Ueda has said that he wants to work with Suda51 on Contact 2, and Suda51 said in an interview with Gamasutra that Akira Ueda would continue the development of Contact 2 under his own company, Audio Inc. The Audio Inc. blog has supposedly said nothing about Contact 2 yet and Audio Inc. has not released any games stateside or any original games at all.

EDIT: I lied! Audio Inc. HAS made an original game! However, the game supposedly only sold slightly less than 4.2K units in 2009, the year it was released, so it might be best to dash any hopes of Contact 2 anytime soon, or at all.

The last thing I want to see is it move exclusively to iOS or Smartphones because I can't afford those with expensive monthly plans and all that stuff just to play that game. I'm hoping it comes to 3DS or even Vita.

I do plan on getting an iPad at some point but not in the near future.

Anyhow, hopefully the game is still in development.

EDIT: Damn... And Contact sales were unimpressive in Japan with only 1-2k sold in the first week apparently and it just didn't take off much there. I mean, 1K is a lot to me, but not so much for publishers and developers. Did they even market the game? I don't recall any advertisements for the game. I can imagine the game being posted on Billboards and the like (particularly the art used for the Box art). It's perfect, I think.

according to VGChartz, Magical Starsign sold more in America than Contact did period.

...I am so disgusted at humanity now. Screw Magical Starsign that game SUUUUCKED. I almost forgot part of my enjoyment of Contact was that I played it after that awful game.

if the entire game was like Habara, the game would have been legendary. I'm not even gonna spoil that in case anyone gets the game, cause it's awesome.

I have this game and cleared it a few years ago. Should replay it soon. Anyway, Contact was extremely weird and pretty unconventional (haven't played any other Suda51 games, but guess they're weird too). I don't get why so many people are saying it was too easy, as in my opinion it was pretty hard, at times even frustrating. For example, the first boss kept killing me a lot, and when I got to the military area, hell broke loose: I had to backtrack and heal myself countless times because everything kept killing me. The only part I'd say was easy was the last battle: I pretty much breezed through it.

I liked the weird charm of the game and the leveling up system for the costumes was pretty fun, although flawed: to actually max out any of the costumes you'd have to keep playing for much longer than it takes you to finish the game, even if you're just using a single costume. The game also ends way too soon: they should have had at least four more islands.

The story was pretty wacky and I liked all the little references (giant enemy crab, Ridge Racer), but they left way too many things unresolved or didn't elaborate on some characters' background. If they had indeed released the rumored Contact 2, they could of continued the story and told more about the professor, but since the sequel will likely never be released, the loose ends won't be tied.

This game's weirdness reminds me a bit of Freshly Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland. Thank God it doesn't have any gay bridge builders, though. It would be awesome to have Contact 2 on 3DS: not only could they fix the minor flaws of the first game, they could probably figure out a weird and clever use for the 3D, just like how Contact utilized the dual screens and the touch controls. The first game didn't probably sell enough to convince them to make a sequel, though, which is pretty sad as I need more weird and unconventional games like Contact and Tingle...

I loved this game, but I forgot almost everything that happenedm other than a few defining moments, like, as you mentioned, that epic ending. I really ought to play through it again, but starting up is so sloooowwwww. It takes forever to get things to start running at a smooth pace.

I love that game, never beat it though...I got to the arcade place and I guess something came up and I never went back to it. I think the cart is at my dad's house somewhere, I'll look for it next time I go over there.
