There's nothing wrong with the original, but it got a redesign called the 3DS XL. Once they redesigned the original GBA and came out with the GBA SP you never saw a new GBA model, did you? Same deal here. The SP is what got all the new colors/limited editions, not the original.

I loved my Aqua Blue original 3DS when I got it at launch, but there's really no going back once you experience that XL screen in my opinion.

I actually experienced the XL first before I finally decide on getting the original 3DS. Since it's way cheaper and it fits my needs as a portable device.

And the sound quality is the exact same on the XL as it is on the original model. Jeez people.

No freaking way. Unless you mean when you put on headphones. Otherwise the original 3DS's speaker is vastly superior to the XL. Although the sound quality of the original 3DS is kinda crap to begin with.

The 3DS XL was not intended to replace the original 3DS. The reason the GBA got replaced with the GBA SP was that it was vastly superior: it had a lit screen and a built in battery. That's not apparent in the case of the 3DS and the XL.

I think we all can agree on two reasons why the 3DS XL gets the Limited Editions.

1. 3DS XL sells more than the 3DS

2. 3DS XL brings in more revenue. The profit might be the same between the two, but bigger numbers on your revenue means a lot more.

God this reminds me of the days where I bought a lamp attachment for my GBA....good old days...

Makes me wonder if the next 3DS redesgin will be "XL" sized, "Lite" sized, or if it will come in both sizes.

because the normal 3DS is already cool it doesn't need special versions to look better
compare and I'm sure 90% will say the XL is uglier:

I'm sticking with my Cosmo Black for now.

Opinion, opinion, opinion.

I disagree completely, I find the 3DS XL to be one of the more attractive handhelds.Plus, i find it so comfortable to use. And finally, i have no issues with the sound.

Amd yes, I've used both, and I just find the 3DS so inferior.

To be fair, saying the sound is worse in the XL isn't really an opinion. It IS worse.

The XL has so many things over the original, though, that I'll happily live with it.

I guarantee you that shiny 3DS will look awful once a human hand, with its sweat and oils, touches the surface of that machine. Almost every 3DS I've seen needs to be wiped down constantly to keep it from looking smudgy.

Can't stand the glossiness of the original. I seriously like the 'solid' finish of the XL.

strangely it is just the oposite to me, I love the glossy look

@Ralizah I agree, I find it irritating that I have to whipe my off sweat and oil just from keeping it from looking dirty! Thank goodness I upgraded.

So, play less horror games.

Isn't that a picture of the 3DS XL with a fire emblem decal? I'm pretty sure the FE 3DS XL was a bit more detailed and the design was smaller. D: Although I do like the borders on the 3DS, which the 3DS XL is missing, I hate the glossy finish of the 3DS. @_@;

The 3DS does look good... but, I will stick with the 3DS XL. It improved on the original design.

I like the look of the original much better, but overall I prefer the XL. Larger screens, and I like how the stylus is actually on the right-hand side(I got used to it, but it was really weird having it on the back when I used the original 3DS and it would take a while for me to get used to it again if I went back). The XL is also much more comfortable to me, I don't mind the size either way but the pointed edges of the original 3DS could get annoying if I had an intense play session, and the XL's rounded edges- while much less cool- are tons more comfortable. Besides that, the brightness and sound are somewhat better on the original, but I just like how the XL is comfier to hold and has such large screens.

That would annoy me so much. I actually prefer the 3DS's placement of the stylus over the 3DS XL's only because I'm left handed.

It may even be louder than the normal 3DS speakers. If only it had two instead.

Still... Better than the XL's oddly quiet sound.

Bloop.

I don't actually "totally agree" with this but yes, the original 3DS is much fun to use, the sounds are okay and more compact. (Since I am using it now, LOL )
Sorry, I know I can't compare if I'm not able to use it myself.

I thought the same thing, but when you get an XL in your hand, you will never want to change back. It is incredibly comfortable and the bigger screens makes the 3D feel that much nicer, I would never go back to the 3DS Mini.
