Topic: So Why Exactly Is The New Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Game Rated M?

From what I've seen it's no more mature than the previous T rated titles in the series so what's up with the M rating being slapped onto the title?

Possibly because of gore, graphic scenes, sexual themes and use of alcohol or other things.

The gore part is specially augmented in this entry because of the introduction of detailed 3D environments and crime scenes.

Yeah, I don't think the game's content is any worse than that of previous games, but the extra detail in the scenes that just happens to come with the more powerful hardware, is just enough for the ESRB to up the rating.

they got a specially strict ESRB censor this time, those things are totally subjective, I've heard it has not been rated different than previous iterations in other regions

maybe it rated M for "more sales thanks to preteens pretending to be mature"? it's just a lame joke if no one noticed

I haven't played through all of it yet, but it's not much worse than the previous entries in the series. If I had to pinpoint the reason for its rating, I'd say the anime cutscenes contain the most graphic moments of the game.
Honestly though, it's really hard to choose a reason for its rating, due to the fact that it simply shouldn't be rated M.

Cringing is really fun.

It's rated "16" by PEGI in Europe, which is equivalent to a "Mature" rating. So, it's not just ESRB going full silly, though I'm still baffled by this.
PS: I'm also baffled that NL censors the R word. One just cannot express himself! Nintendolife, rated E for Everyone...

Just for future reference, the "r" word is offensive in some parts of the world, hence why it's censored here -Lz

Europe's 16 is not the equivalent to M. We have 18.

Europe's ratings are: 3, 7, 12, 16 and 18.

By the way, r word? What is it?

Europe's 16 is not the equivalent to M. We have 18.

Europe's ratings are: 3, 7, 12, 16 and 18.

PEGI 18 = ESRB AO (18)
PEGI 16 = ESRB M (17)
PEGI 12 = ESRB T (13)
PEGI 7 = ESRB E (6)
PEGI 3 = ESRB EC (3)

I guess the only ESRB rating that doesn't have a PEGI equivalent is E10+.

Granted, not many developers make AO games, as retailers won't carry them. Not sure how it is in Europe with PEGI 18.

This is laughable that its rated M! No swearing and very little graphic violence. Does the sight of blood really warrant an M rating? If anything the translation should be rated M lol!

PEGI 18 is quite common in Europe. Games that get an M rating stateside may go either way: PEGI 16 or PEGI 18. There's no issue with a PEGI 18 rating on retailers as far as know. For instance, ZombiU is rated 18 and Resident evil revelations just 16.

The real question is how the same people who gave this an M 17 to this gave Senran Kagura Burts a T rating, I don't think either should be M 17 but of the two Senran is clearly the most questionable in content
