@MegaBeedrill

Reading your comment I just realized something...

This is probably Nintendo's way of prepping the 60 million 3DS owners to get into the franchise before an NX entry.

That is their style after all. They released DKC Returns to get 3DS owners to want Tropical Freeze, they released Xenoblade to get 3DS owners to want Xenoblade X- this is how Nintendo operates. And it's smart too. You can't expect Pikmin NX to draw people into NX if not many have played it.

Aha! I think we've solved the mystery my dear Watson.

"First Kid Icarus, now Pikmin. When will this stop???"

Kid Icarus Uprising is actually pretty good (and I am not alone on that, people love it). Its not what I imagined, but still great. Fast gameplay, awesome graphics, awesome music. This (Pikmin 3DS) just looks like another average 2D platformer! As if we haven't gotten enough 2D platformers from the big N already. Don't get me wrong: I looove a good baked Nintendo 2D platformer. But can't we get something else for once? Ok, we have Federation force. But still...

@Operative This game isn't developed by the Pikmin team (EAD no.4); but by the same dev that made Yoshi's New Island. Miyamoto was specifically talking about what the Pikmin team was working on; not this game, that's for sure.

Why do so many think this will be a platformer? We saw no jumping at all in the short trailer that was released. So far it looks like a 2D Pikmin that is more action oriented.

and they said that it will be played on both screens. if you watched the direct, that one baddy was on both the top and the bottom screen at the same time. So honestly can't you people wait until we know more about the game before we judge it.
I'm excited for this because I play more on my 3DS than my Wii U (that's my son's department lol).

Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

let's be honest, in terms of who it is for (beyond Pikmin fans), it might as well be a platformer. I mean, it feels exactly what a DS spinoff of a Nintendo platformer series would be anyway.

It's like how everyone compares Splatoon to online multiplayer first person shooters. It's not a FIRST PERSON shooter, but the similarities to them and why it was made is abundantly clear (and even that comparison is probably being very generous in terms of originality towards Pikmin 3DS)

Also, I don't know why Nintendo keeps giving these guys work. It's not like all their games are awful but none of them are considered complete successes and there are so many developers that could do better. Maybe I'll be proven wrong but I doubt it. I was actually cool with this game until I heard who was making it.

@DefHalan,

The sarcasm, I guess? Lol!

Its not always clear on the internet what's sarcasm and what's not. It doesn't change my opinion though: Kid Icarus uprising was great, Pikmin 3DS looks weak. On a positive note: It could be a bit like Kirby's mass attack, and that game was great!

As for the developer: Artoon? The creator of the average Yoshi's new island?

Since I am a huge Pikmin fan, I don't see a Pikmin game here. Yes, the characters are there, maybe the music and it might be a great game in the end, but it won't be a Pikmin game. Pikmin was always a slow paced game with rare moments of startling awake and action in boss fights. Simply a great mix!

A 2D-Pikmin could be nice but I won't play it.

@Henmii I was poking fun at this statement "Nintendo is destroying ANOTHER franchise!" Because I knew he was talking about Metroid. But Nintendo actually does this stuff quiet often, so I picked a game that most people thought was great to poke fun at the statement. Sorry you missed the joke.

I expected to see a Pikmin game on the 3DS, but I did not think that that game would be in the form of a sidescroller. Upon seeing the gameplay, the core of Pikmin does seem to be on display in spite of that change up from the series' usual 3D settings. I see Pikmin being thrown, Pikmin being directed, Pikmin being whistled to Olimar...I also see a setting that reminds me of Pikmin, a vibrant, natural world with plenty of towering creatures that threaten or hinder the Pikmin.

What really impresses me though is that Nintendo is finally getting around to a game that will make a lot of use of the 3DS's two screens for the main display of a game's world. That has been a concept I've been wanting since the 3DS released, as I really love DS games like Sonic Rush and Contra 4. For a world like Pikmin, I think it'll be a perfect way to really capture the scale of Pikmin in the environment and among their larger predators. I'm excited and currently this is a Day One buy for me.

If we say its good, thats judging it.
If we say it sucks, thats judging it.
If we discuss our predictions and perspectives about the game on release, thats judging it.

What do you want us to discuss? Saying its bad is just as judgemental as saying it'll be the best game ever on release. Might as well lock the thread.

@MegaBeedrill you saw 20 seconds of a trailer for the game. Can you really judge it on that? If you can, then there's nothing more to say but I reserve judgement until I know more about something whether it be movies, games or books. Or just people in general. I think that this game has the potential to be a good game but maybe that's just me.

@Pokefanmum82 To be fair, yes you can. That's what a trailer is for, to give you an impression of the game. We know what the gameplay will be like and what it isn't going to be. I'd say it is fair if you judged a game based on its trailer. After all, that's what they're for.

You're judging it as good, it works both ways.

But yea, thats pretty much all we can do off a trailer is judge the gameplay and what we see.

Well, it seems to be level based with the aim to get to the goal of each level based on the directs own words. I'm tired of 2D get from A to B games. And from New Island devs. Yeah, people have a right to be skeptical.

Of course, everyone also has a right to be optimistic. To some, it'll be a fun little departure for the franchise. That's fair.

Nowhere has it been said that Arzest is developing this game, people are pulling that out of their behinds, and proclaim it as gospel. This needs to stop.

Dunno how I feel.

So maybe it's Nintendo themselves after all.
