If a good game is released on the eShop would you buy it?
Or do you prefer to only play 3DS games that are bought at retail?
Just curious as I'm wondering what people's thoughts are and yea I know I could have asked this question on the 3DSWare group however that would give a slightly skewed result i.e. people on a 3DSWare forum would probably use 3DSWare
I bought a lot of old virtual console games from the eShop but don't think I would buy much else, though I have also bought Pullblox because of the exceptional reviews. If a Mario game or Zelda game or something came out on 3DSWare, I would definitely buy it, even if it wasn't retail. I also bought a couple of the 3D classics but I kinda wish I didn't... I wasn't too impressed and would rather play the originals.
I have a heck load of xbox live arcade games though so I'm sure I would if good stuff comes out... but I think the eShop is lacking at the moment.
I buy both types of games, though I probably lean more towards buying carts and VC games. There's usually just more of an experience with those. I do have a good handful of DSiWare though. I'm limiting my purchases now, because I have such a backlog. When a must-have like Super Mario 3D Land or Mario Kart 7 releases, I'll ignore the backlog. I feel it's harder to do that with DSiWare, since there's not very many "absolutely can't miss titles." I have a wish list, but I don't know how much of that I'll ever actually get to.
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery
Interesting, I think the point I was getting at is. Is it the quality of what's on offer the issue or the payment and distribution mechanism?
I find paying digitally a hell of a lot easier than withdrawing cash and going to a shop to wait in line (or paying by card, waiting for slow card machines to reject your card...). I would happily buy all my games digitally if they were available as such. I think my games are a lot safer stored on the internet than they are in the real world.
Nintendo can take more risks in games on the eShop and produce games like Freakyforms. I think if it was a retail game it would have struggled but as a downloadable title it is awesome with as much content as some retail games, also there are some good titles that just dont have enough meat on them to justify a full retail but work extremely well as a download with a much cheaper price like Pyramids. As such I buy both, digital downloads and retail carts.

So far I've got more games from the e-shop than retail. It's not just because they're fairly cheap, they're easily accessed on-the-go as well. I couldn't resist the Super Mario Land games for instance. I still remember playing the first one on my GameBoy.
Current 3DS games: Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 3D Land, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, Super Street Fighter IV 3D, Ridge Racer 3D.
I usually lean more towards physical media, as you can keep it with you and even sell them if you don't like them. But if I have no choice, I will get the digital version.
The electronic games require you to get points cards or that the company takes your particular credit or debit card, which can be a hassle. Plus digital games are usually cheaper, so it is easier to be a compulsive buyer.
I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

Best thing to do, if you're paranoid with that sort of stuff (which you should be tbh), is to get one of those pre-paid cards and top it up with the amount of money you think you'll spend each week/month. Some banks have a nifty facility where they can generate a temporary online-VISA based on the VISA you already have. As soon as you've used the generated VISA you can delete it and any hacker who might've picked it up and try to use it will be disappointed.
